Version 3.0.37 has a serious problem. When cleaning MFT, It creates a master directory ~00~ with subdirectories with thousands of zero byte files and I have to use Task Manager to shut it down. I then have to delete each directory as I cannot delete the master directyory. You need to make version 3.0.36 available as Privazer is no longer usable. I have emailed you twice about the problem. I would sincerely appreciate a link to a previous version or email it to me.
Thank You. I will let you know tomorrow if that solves my problem. I expect it will because the problem never appeared until .37 and ran Privazer nightly on same system for years. I also have not made any changes (that I recall or am aware of) to the system.
I have run 3.0.36 twice and no problems. However, I did see that it also creates a directory ~00~ which has a number of subdirectories (0.0x0, etc). On finishing the cleaning, Privazer deleted that directory and all subdirs. Why does Privazer create that directory and the subdirs? What would cause Privazer 3.0.37 to fail to complete its cleaning and leave that dir and subdirs? System is plain Win7 with 500GB internal and two 500GB external USB drives. The failure always occurred on one of the USB drives. Nothing else runs (other than firewall) while Privazer is cleaning.
hello, temporary files created in directory ~00~ are used to overwrite empty entries in the MFT to make previous files unrecoverable. At the end of the MFT cleanup, PrivaZer deletes them all. It is hard to say why it would not be deleted because the difference between v3.0.36 and v3.0.37 resides in the files creation, not deletion. What could help, would be a screenshot when v3.0.37 is hanging. Please send it to support@privazer.com Fladen, Team leader of the PrivaZer Team
v3.0.39 - Improved automatic cleanup of internet traces (Donors version) - Improved MFT cleanup - Improved prefetch cleanup - Improved creation of restore points - Fixes of minor bugs - Improved UI - Improved Czech language
3.0.38 got stuck similar to 3.0.37 but reacted differently in that I was able to stop Privazer and shut it down which I could not do with .37. What is odd is that the drive exhibiting the problem actually had no changes from the previous cleanings because it was a backup drive. It should not have been in the queue for cleaning and has been removed from the list. It was originally in the list after updated backup. The probable reason for Privazer getting stuck was that with the creation of the ~00~ dir and subdirs, the drive ran out of space. Sorry that I cannot provide more information but if it (or anything similar happens again) I will try to capture more info. Overall I am more than satisfied with Privazer and highly recommend it.
Is there a way to tell PrivaZer not to clean the chkdisk.log file in System Information? Windows 7 64 bit.
@camelia sorry for late reply. at which step does it hang? @jopa66, under "System" in the scan list, uncheck "Chkdsk log files"
Hi all! I recently did a 'search in files' using Notepad++ for any traces of of my bank account name on my HDD. Out of the few results which appeared, one of them was buried within the portable version of Privazer. I opened the PrivaZer.exe file using Notepad++ and from line 9575, there seems to be a lot of plain text stuff in there including a bunch of random names, names of banks and also sex related keywords? I downloaded the other 2 versions (donor and standard install) and these showed no sign of them (thought these versions are half the size). Does anyone know why the portable version of Privazer contains this text and for what purpose?
Hello, the installation programs are compressed with UPX. That's why you did not see anything in plain text. The privazer.exe is not compressed. The privazer.exe file contains a list of sensitive domain names and sex related keywords to make sure that those names can not be found after a cleanup with PrivaZer. For instance, a cookie with such a name would be automatically erased by PrivaZer (Intelligent selection of cookies). Hope it helps.
Is there any advantage to using the installed version of PrivaZer over the portable version? Obviously the portable can be run from USB stick but, what if any other advantages of installed vs. portable?
Hello @jopa66 PrivaZer right-click menu in Windows Explorer is installed only when PrivaZer is fully installed on the PC. Scheduled cleanups only available for installed version Automatic cleanups of internet traces when browers are closed only available for installed version (donors version)
No, PrivaZer does not hang on W10, but takes more than 4 hours to finish, meanwhile in W7 takes around 1 hour,,, Why Btw what Chkdsk.log stores? Thanks Camelia
@camelia, sorry but I did not get a notification from Wilders that there was a post on this thread. I will check my settings out. Can you check on W10, which step takes so long? I presume the free space cleanup or the MFT cleanup.
I could have sworn I saw a post in this thread earlier about Kaspersky alerting on the installation of the most recent update. I received the same alert. Kaspersky removed UDS: Trojan.Win32.Generic. Is the recent update safe or not?
I had the same. Kasparsky warned me earlier for a virus in version 3.0.39. Kasparsky does not warn me for the v3.0.39.1, so that version is clean. Kasparsky warned me again for a virus in the new version 3.0.40. So, to be safe, I installed the v3.0.39.1 version. Was it a false positive warning from Kasparsky? Or is someone abusing Privazer to distribute a virus?
