AFAIK the browsers that work for XP are: slimjet, opera, firefox, & kmeleon. Slimjet, opera, & firefox do not use their latest versions. Instead they use older versions that work with XP.

I now have a laptop with win10 but I still prefer my desktop cmptr that runs good old XP.

I am not that worried about finding a newer/safer browser because I run mbae, OSArmor & other stuff that keeps me very well protected. However, I am concerned with the fact that a few websites no longer work 100% okay ---is it html 5 or what that is passing me by?

So I seek a browser that works with xp, light on cpu, and that is more up-to-date with website changes. Is there one such?

    Hi bellgamin,
I'm also an XP user who is having this problem with html5 within browsers. It seems some youtube videos don't want to play without it...I'm looking for a workaround as I'd like to stay with XP.

I'm testing Maxthon now. Research elsewhere indicates that Maxthon is reportedly staying up-to-date for XP. Also I am told that Opera's browser edition that they give to xp users is continuing to be patched by Opera folks so as to keep it current. I may test that out in a few days.

I'm still using Firefox ESR on my XP laptop...tried new Opera for XP/Vista but I couldn't import bookmarks (both .html and .json file) from Firefox so I removed it. Tried also K-meleon but due to language localisation (Polish) I can have only older version.
I consider the last real Opera v.12...what do you think about such idea?

I will check Opera version for XP tomorrow -- right now I am not home. This is being done on a tablet.

As for bookmark mobility, I don't use browsers for bookmarks. Instead I put my favorite sites on a web page on one of my domains -- for example: http://www.tisdale.us. This is a specimen, not actual. My actual web pages of shortcuts are located in a file folder in my computer. Any browser will readily run an html page located in a file on your computer. I find this a much easier way to keep my favorites. But, to each his own (as the bearded lady said when she kissed the cow.)

Have you tried Maxthon lately? I hope they have it in your language. Happy New Year! :thumb:

In my Win XP I use 'K-meleon'. It is enought to me and easy to use.

Whenever I have to service an old XP machine I always install the last version of Chromium which was supported by XP. This is always lean and mean on old XP machines. I actually had to service an XP machine a few weeks ago and my choices were super limited. Internet Explorer which is not secure and no longer supported or go with the far more secure Chromium. Anyway, that is still my go to suggestion for XP and Vista.

As regards to Chromium forks...I found that project called Advanced Chrome "Custom build" is based on quite new Chromium v. 54.20.6530.0 and it supports XP and Vista. It works for now actually flawlesly without issue on my Vista...better than latest Slimjet dedicated for Vista.

With Windows 10 practically given away for free, the only constraint to upgrading from Windows XP are hardware requirements.

And my Windows 10 looks exactly like Windows XP with a third party Skin Pack, so there.

@bellgamin I don't remember if the question was already asked to you but why don't you replace XP with a Linux distro?

Good point. Any modern Linux distro will run and support the latest version of all supported browsers.

XP/Vista users could get a FF port even after August 2018 similar to the TenFourFox port started for Apple PC users after every one dropped support for the platform after Steve Jobs obsoleted it by moving Apple to the Intel platform.

The developer Roytam1 brings forward 3 browsers with finished support for XP:

    New Moon
    Basilisk
    K-Meleon

    I asked him a question:

    Q. - Will you intend to develop a modified version also of Firefox after the end of support for XP?

"No, rust-powered Firefox cannot be ported to XP."

For others it would be possible.

Where is there a clear-text download click spot for XP-compatible installer for Basilisk? The regular Basilisk site offers a browser that is no-go for WinXp.

    The last 32 bit build:

    http://o.rthost.cf/basilisk/basilisk52-g4.1.win32-git-20180302-e27282913-xpmod.7z

the updates are quite frequent, I would say weekly.

Regarding browsers that work with XP, you have lots of options, depending on whether or not you require the browser to be installable or portable. I will assume you are focused on the former. Currently I'm test-driving SRWare Iron 49.2600.0, Chromodo 45.9.12.392, FlashPeak Slimjet 9.0.7.0, & Firefox 30.0. Out of a batch of ten browsers, these are all that's left (the others got ditched for various reasons). Other browsers that I know will install and work are: Whitehat Aviator, Chromodo IceDragon, Opera 35, & CyberDragon. I have not tried these yet: https://msfn.org/board/topic/177125-my-build-of-new-moon-temp-name-aka-pale-moon-for-xp/
A little too new, and I think not properly vetted. SrWare and Slimjet both use HTML5, and there is a Firefox manipulation to force it to use HTML5. Not sure what you mean by websites not working....certificate errors?

I would not reccommend srware iron as that is nothing but a scamware browser and chromium would be a better choice.I just do not see the point in the iron browser at all.
Chromodo has been proven to have security issues which were revealed by google.

Out New Moon v.28 (20180421) for Windows XP developed by Roytam1.
    This is the second build.
