Heh...I would be much much more worried about UK government than hackers.
And of course, effective way to keep opposition mouths shut .... grrrr....

I guess that is one way of preventing UK marking kids as pedophiles for watching porn.

 

Some Kid's using cell phones have been accused of revenge porn, and when you have a 13 year old and a 15 year old.

 

I predict that kind of thing is going to become a big problem for society.
Smartphones with high resolution video cameras have got so cheap over the last year or two they are now throwaway items and all the kids have them.

On the contrary, we have the unacceptable situation where officials in LE have released accusations derived from investigatory powers without constraint and possibly from political motives.

In my view this is a fatal flaw in the Investigatory Powers Act, which allows many people in many organisations to view a person's communications history and also to attack and alter the client systems - these are extraordinarily intrusive powers, which also demolish usual rules of evidence and fair trial. They can easily go on fishing expeditions and discredit anyone they want.

And then they can go talk about what they find to anyone, without apparent constraint?

I just caught the end of bbc radio 1 newsbeat on age verification.

The UK government has confirmed that a controversial compulsory age verification check for online porn visitors will no longer be introduced in April as planned.

In a statement, the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport said it would now start "later in the year".

There doesnt seem to be any changes or specific reasons beyond the generic time to get it right line.
Is there a chance they will actually listen to someone who knows about these things and drop the rediculous idea?

thepiratebay comes to mind with blocking it in the uk increased traffic to it via proxy sites.

I think this age verification law is good, because it would force teenagers to learn about how Internet works and technologies such as VPNs, proxies and Tor. This will probably decrease network professionals shortage in ten years or so.

 

I wonder when did hardcore porn become OK. When I was a teenager such porn that is today just run of the mill was then, strictly illegal.

 

Which would be fine if it worked but as usual with government interference it doesn't and even increase exposure with publicity and exposure on neutral platforms like social media. Social media is exempt so guess what happens now...

 

The irony that kids know more than politicians making the law

 

During the 90s, I worked on implementing a range of networks for major ISPs, both cable and twisted pair. I also did a Netflow traffic monitoring project.

At that time, the business model of the ISPs was adult content, certainly in terms of volume. Not illegal (necessarily), but for sure, when visiting some of the links that Netflow indicated in the interest of scientific investigation, it opened what I rashly thought were unshockable eyes. But frankly, I am far more shocked at the unethical and robber-baron land grab of the corporates today, and that they have been allowed to get away with it.

Age verification is a transparent attempt to finger the population on the internet with their real-life identity by the back door - remember that the UK government very nearly imposed an ID and National Identity Register, which would certainly have been used to require login etc.
