Hi All,
We are happy to announce Beta release of Comodo Cloud Antivirus v1.12.419257.523, which has following changes:

New:
1) Protected Files:
"Settings-->Sandbox->Protected Data" has now been renamed as "Settings-->Sandbox->Protected Files".
It means following:
- Like before, you can define folder which can't be modified, now contents inside those folders will be invisible to Sandbox apps. So neither read nor write is allowed.
- You can define any file path and it won't be visible to Sandboxed applications
- As default you will find following entry in there:

%SystemDrive%\users\*\documents\*

i.e. no file inside this folder will be visible to Sandboxed application.
The objective is that even if you have a malware in Sandbox, it now even can't read your data and transfer.
So sandboxed applications are now having access to only files, which are either created by them or they can read other contents as long as they are not defined in this section.

2) Enhanced Clipboard Protection:
Earlier we prevented clipboard access to Sandbox application, where sandbox application could not access clipboard, now sandboxed application clipboard data could also not be copied outside. It takes care of situations where malware applications could transfer malicious contents via clipboard to outside sandbox. Even though you were protected due to default-deny, but now that situation itself is prevented from arising.

3) Recognizer Update Control:
Earlier recognizers could be auto updated. Now user has control. In "General Settings -->Updates" now there is a check box "Update recognizer automatically", selected by default, it lets you control recognizer update.
Additionally after this release onward, we will just have to flip a configuration setting on server side to convert recognizer from test mode to alert mode and vice-versa without requiring new binary update.

Fixes:
4) Crash Fixes:
In last major release v505, we introduced crash reporting. It has been of great help and allowed us to receive reports beyond forums community. Many crashes have been fixed and this is a much-stable version. Our objective is to ensure that we create a product that works for all and is rock-solid. We will continue to fix issues as received from users.

Changes:
5) Advanced Protection
Now "Settings-->Browser Settings Protection" has been renamed as "Settings-->Advanced Protection" and it's settings moved as sub section "Browser Settings Protection", allowing to add more sub sections in there.

We would like to hear on following if you see any usability issues due to following two features introduction in this release:
A - Due to introduction of not allowing Sandboxed applications to access "Documents" folder by default.
B - Not allowing sandboxed applications clipboard data to outside Sandbox

C - Would you like to recommend more folders to be added to "Protected Files" feature?

This is also not entirely true, Valkyrie has improved a lot and now answers are getting faster. There is still a problem with large files, but I think this is a downside of cloud AVs

Default-deny technology leads to false positives... if you are sure about a file being sandboxed, you can manually add an exclusion for it

With respect to advisory issued here, following is release candidate version of Comodo Cloud Antivirus and Internet Security Essentials that fix incompatibility with KB4022716 (OS Build 15063.447).

Please use following steps to test Comodo Cloud Antivirus(CCAV) together with Internet Security Essentials(ISE):

Testing Scenario - A: Fresh Installation

Step - 1A: Ensure you have Windows 10 with latest KB4022716 (OS Build 15063.447) or you can update to it after installing this release candidate.

Step - 2A: Have following host entries:

Step - 3A: Download and install following Comodo Cloud Antivirus v1.12.421501.536 setup:

When you install, it will bring with it latest Internet Security Essentials v1.2.421501.87 also allowing to test both CCAV and ISE.

Testing Scenario - B: Update

Step - 1B:
Ensure you have Windows 10 version prior to KB4022716 (OS Build 15063.447) and also you also have CCAV production version 533 or lower and also you have any version of Internet Security Essentials installed.

Step - 2B: Have following host entries:

Step - 3B: Change system date to next date. Upon update you will get update prompt from CCAV within 10min of re-boot and also will get UAC alert in case UAC enabled to update Internet Security Essentials.

Step - 4B:
After you have ensured you have latest versions of both CCAV and ISE, update Windows to latest KB4022716 (OS Build 15063.447).

Areas to check:
- You must be able to launch and use all browsers (IE, Edge, Firefox, Chrome)
- You must be able to login to Windows after Windows is updated

We are pleased to announce availability of Comodo Cloud Antivirus Beta v1.13.423876.550 with following changes:

New
1. Manual Updater:
Now we have manual updater. It is available from two places:
- Main screen has a button: Check Update
- Menu shown from Help icon has additional option: Check Update

When we release next beta, you should be able to see it working fully.

2. Proxy Settings:
Under "Settings --> General Settings --> Updates", now there is a link to "Proxy and Host Settings". Like CIS, you will be able to configure proxy for all communication now.

3. Exclusion List for Network Traffic for Apps Running in Sandbox:
Under "Settings --> Sandbox --> Sandbox Settings" section you have a new check box allowing user to define exception list of applications running in Sandbox that can still communicate over TCP if network related options are disabled. So now you should be able to define exclusions e.g. for browsers running in Sandbox. Requested here and also desired since network control over sandbox apps was requested.

4. Feedback:
We have a feedback icon on main screen, earlier it used to launch URL to Comodo forums. Now user will be able to send a feedback to Comodo and will also be able to go to CCAV section of forums.

5. Internet Security Essentials(ISE) Installation optional:
Earlier ISE used to be installed by default in case you had not installed ISE in the past. Going forward, in case ISE is not currently installed in system, you will be offered ISE during installation and can opt-out. There is a minor bug, in case you had installed in past, you won't see this option, will be fixed in next beta.

6. Online EULA:
It's a small change, during installation or update, if you click on EULA, latest EULA will be tried to be downloaded from server.

Following are changes since last 1st beta v550:

1. Sandbox alert is back to the way it is like in current production version i.e. you can unblock sandboxed application from alert itself. In future releases we will provide configuration option to switch to Windows 10 like notification.
2. Manual updater will also update Recognizer.
3. Release notes link added in About dialog
4. Edge browser support in Sandbox is dropped at the moment. There are technical limitations due to design of Edge. We will continue to explore possibilities further.

Please check it out and based on your feedback, we will decide to release in next days.

We plan to make a hot-fix release of CCAV next week with following change:

Fix:
- Since last couple of CCAV builds we have an exclusion rule in Sandbox settings for Windows Apps as shown in enclosed image. There have been initial versions of CCAV, which didn't have this rule to begin with and also when updated, didn't get this rule in it and due to that some of latest CCAV versions also see Windows applications in Sandbox. This update ensures that exclusion rule is in place.

Reason for hot-fix:
Current production version is not compatible with upcoming Redstone(RS) 3, due on 17th Oct, 2017, and currently supports highest build version till 16257 of Windows 10.
So if you run v564 or lower on latest RS3 build (e.g. 16299), you won't find CCAV active, however upon every system re-start or if you try to launch CCAV, it will ask you to update to latest version.

Changes:
1.
It supports latest RS3 build v16299

2.
It is fully compliant with latest Cloud Files Feature being introduced in RS3 release.

We will be making public release early next week.

We will appreciate if you could:
- Try out this build on one of latest RS3 builds and check for stability and functionality.

In last public released we had a regression where right click scan on secondary drive didn't scan any files as reported here.

Like CIS, we have introduced emergency update in this CCAV version. If existing "Settings --> General Settings --> Updates --> Automatically install program updates..." option is selected and if there is serious incompatibility in latest Windows, CCAV will be auto updated to latest version to avoid any bad user experience. You will see alert in post update scenario as shown in enclosed example image. It will be used only in critical situations.
If you have v586 - Beta installed, you should see this message as we enabled on test server for testing.

Please check it out.

The focus of this release is to improve usability and here are the changes:
1)
Improved Usability with Clipboard Based Protection:
Earlier you could not copy-paste in and out of Sandboxed applications. We have made two changes in this regard:
a - You should be able to copy text from sandboxed application to outside Sandbox. This is by default.
b- If you want to paste text from application running outside sandbox in application running inside sandbox, we have added a new check box in Sandbox Settings as "Enable clipboard access to Sandboxed applications", de-selected by default, as we don't want a Sandboxed applications to have access to passwords from outside. So if you want to paste text in a sandboxed application, you can select check box and be able to paste in.

2)
Improvised message for possible file-less malware cases:
We introduced support of file-less malware in v594 in similar fashion as we have in CIS. But as one of CIS users pointed here, he didn't have enough information to act on alert.
So we have improved message and user will know as exactly what was the application that executed another application and passed command line params. Please see attached snaps of alert. We are further working in this area to auto analyze and block true cases of file-less malware.

3)
Improvised handling of sandboxed PDF cases:
We had two problems in there:
a. When PDf executed in Sandbox, e.g. launched from email client, user had no idea as why pdf will be Sandboxed.
b. When PDF running in Sandbox is saved, it ended up saved as in Sandbox itself, so user could not find it. And it could be very confusing.

In this release, we have improvised the message user sees when pdf is sandboxed and also, in case you save PDF, it will always be saved outside Sandbox. The reason is, if you trust the PDF, natural reaction would be to save it, that means user trusts the PDF.

We will be further improving handling of Sandbox files as discussed here in next releases.

We will be carrying these changes in CIS as well soon.
