    For some of those add-ons see this post.

    Regarding Bluhell: This add-on was discussed here in Wilders before. Even if it were available as a webextension I would advise against it as it is only a limited solution. You are far better off using uBlock Origin.

    You're kidding me right? That's not tabs on bottom! :D

    BTW, I just recently noticed that older versions of FF did have an "Tabs not on top" option, but it seems not to be present in FF 57, and I'm also not sure what this option exactly did.

    Yes I read about it, seems like I won't be able to switch to FF 57 anytime soon, what a bummer.

    Tabs on bottom and Tabs not on top is one and the same.

    Perhaps you were thinking of what used to be called Status bar/Addon bar. As I understand it, thats not going to be possible at all in Firefox 57.

    When I speak of "tabs on bottom", I mean those tabs need to be just above the Windows taskbar. I'm sure this must still be possible with FF 57, but it's no standard feature, and Tab Mix Plus isn't ready yet. It's one of the most ridiculous things that browsers like Chrome, FF and Opera don't offer this feature. I don't know which idiot started this trend, I believe it first started in IE 8.

    That's very debatable. I like it the way it is as the tabs are very close to the bookmarks toolbar (where I save my most important bookmarks), hence there is no need to move the cursor across the whole screen. Much more convenient and faster than having the tabs at the bottom.

    Yes it is. But the point is, why not make it optional? Why do I need Tab Mix Plus for this basic stuff? Same goes for mouse gestures, which for some reason is also not present in FF. I believe the reason I like tabs on bottom is probably because of the Win Taskbar, which is normally also on bottom.

    Because, most probably, most users wouldn't use it. You want that feature - I don't. I like the bookmark manager - which you frequently call "crappy". Yes, Mozilla could still implement them (and many more) as options - with the result that probably many people would call Firefox bloated and its settings menues overloaded. You cannot satisfy everyone's wishes.

    Providing those features via add-ons is much more flexible as every user can install what he/she needs/wants. (That your request can not be implemented right now is a different problem as the necessary API seems not yet available but this might change in FF 58 or 59 as many new APIs are being added.)

    Is FF a "power-user" browser or not? The features that I'm asking for would not make FF more bloated. There is no ability to open tabs in the background without using the keyboard, no ability to close tabs via double click, bookmarks, history and download manager opens in a separate window (not tab based), as if we're still living in the 90's. Come on, this stuff is embarrassing. If it wasn't for the high RAM usage, I would have switched to Vivaldi for sure.

    That's your personal opinion. Not all features for power users need to be implemented by default. It's sufficient that add-ons can provide them.

    You mean: without getting the focus? Of course, there is: Just middle-click a link.

    Whyo_O? I need just ONE click to close a tab. Why would I want to need a double clicko_O

    This is simply not true. Just click the Sidebars button in the toolbar. The sidebar opens (which is NOT a new window, and you can have it at left or the right side of the browser) where you can alternatively display your bookmarks or your history with one click.

    I was starting to think only my mice (mouses?) had that feature.

    Rasheed - you are NO power user. if you were - you already were using 52esr or had investigated into new extension, please stop telling fud.

    this thread is full of solutions, suggestions and more - just use it instead still complaining. hiow many times you need to be pointed out for this? and how many times you need to be told to stop using firefox if you are not able to get along with it?

    it makes no difference you still complaining about quantum.

    1 It's best to keep extensions to a minimum for browser security and stability.
    2 My bad, this is possible, but surprise, surprise, the new tab won't open next to the active. I should probably wait for an extension LOL.
    3 Yes but you need to aim at the close button, that's so 2002.
    4 The sidebar sucks! You need to keep it open all of the time and isn't full-screen.

    Wrong, you are NO power suer, because you're not missing any features and think the new FF is all that, what a joke. And why should I stop using FF, when FF 52 is working just fine?

    Open Tabs Next to Current, add this functionality. I also use Select After Closing Current, to change the focus to tab to the left of a tab you close.

    I've only just started using Firefox. In the past, I've never liked it, as I could do everything I wanted with certain other browsers, without using a single extension, but not with Firefox. However, I'm seeing a very big speed increase when using Firefox, over Cent browser, so I switched.

    This is no longer that relevant for webextensions as they are much more stable and secure than legacy add-ons and run into their own process. See the 1st post in this thread.

    You don't have to wait. As @roger_m already wrote, these add-ons exist.

    You need new glasses, Rasheed :D

    Not for me, and obviously not for other partcipants in this thread.

    You're complaining about trifles but you're running a version full of vulnerabilities (like any browser which is several versions old - unless you mean v. 52 ESR but you didn't say that). :rolleyes: Ah - yes: I remember that you're running it in Sandboxie. Sandboxie might be able to protect your system but it cannot provide secure browsing if the browser itself has multiple security flaws.

    1 That's cool, but that doesn't solve the problem of rogue extensions.
    2 See number 1, and I have read reviews for some of these new extensions, most of them were crap.
    3 Any real "power user" will tell you that the bookmarks manager (sidebar or not) is a joke. It should be tabbed based.
    4 I already said, I'm not that worried about that, but I do wanted to enjoy the more speedy FF Quantum, which I now can't.

    Cool, will check them out. But again, you really shouldn't need extensions for this basic functionality.

    If you define a user as a "power user" only if he/she uses the browser exactly the way you do. So be it.

    This is going silly. I won't comment on this anymore.

    Of course it depends on taste. But to me it's silly to say that the sidebar, or bookmarks in a separate window is just as handy. Do you really have the sidebar open all of the time, and hide it when necessary? It doesn't even have a hide-button. Or do you simply select bookmarks via the button? Go try to do this with over 1000 bookmarks. Sorry, it sounds silly to me.

    The two extensions I linked two have a 4.5 star rating.
    Well, that's really a matter of personal opinion, rather than being a power user or not.
    I would also prefer for Firefox to have more functionality included as standard. Because of this, I loved the short lived Firefox based Avant Browser variant Orca. However, because the Firefox is running so much faster than Cent is, I'm happy to use multiple extensions to get similar functionality.

    1 Yes correct, but I was talking about some of the other new extensions who got very bad reviews.
    2 If you say you don't need it to be tabbed based, that's cool. But if you say it's just as handy, then I can't take you serious.
    3 For basic functionality you shouldn't need extensions. The less, the better, just take a look at Vivaldi.

    I never said that I don't need it to be tabbed. For the record, I would prefer it to be tabbed. What I actually said was that preferring it to tabbed or in a window, is a matter of personal preference.
    Well to use Vivaldi as an example, I would need extensions to make it work the way I want. So, while it may do everything you need it to do, that is certainly not the case for me. My preference is to use browsers which have all the main features I use included as standard, and that's what I've been doing the last 15 years, until I just started using Firefox for the first time. But, I'm sure that the average user only needs very basic functionality as standard. If the was not the case, then I'm sure that Chrome, Firefox, IE and Edge would be much more configurable.

    If you don't like having to use extensions in Firefox, switch to a browser that has the functionality you need included as standard.

    I like how Firefox 57 on Windows default theme is light with background tabs dark. However, on Linux the default theme is just grey. The light and dark themes on Windows and Linux are the same, however they don't have substantially different background tabs color. Looking for new themes on AMO, I don't see anything similar to the default theme on Windows. It is possible to achieve the same results with modifying UserChrome.css?

    I don't know but FWIW there is a new theming API available in FF58+ which will offer new possibilties.

    Hi, I'm using Kubuntu 16.04 and the image I'm posting is of Firefox 57.0.1 on that OS. Firefox, since version 45 or 46, uses the gtk3 theme of your Linux distro for most of its appearance. Then, as you mention, you can make additional, overriding changes using userChrome.css.

    Part of my userChrome.css:
    Code:
    tab { color: #888888 !important; font-size: 16px !important; font-family: Cousine !important; }
    tab [selected] { font-family: Cousine !important; color: #000010 !important; font-weight: bold !important; font-size: 16px !important;  background: #444 !important; }

    #nav-bar { background: #444 !important; }
    #urlbar {font-size: 16px !important; font-family: Cousine !important; color: #0085c2 !important; }
    toolbar:not(#TabsToolbar):not(#toolbar-menubar):not(#nav-bar) { background: #444 !important; } /*makes bookmarks bar same color as tabs*/
