Firefox 57: an overview of what's new (with resources)

Depends a bit on how you use the browser. It's more about bookmarks management I guess. I now have about 1400 bookmarks, and most of the time I simply select bookmarks via the address-bar, but sometimes I want to explore all of those bookmarks, and a separate window for bookmarks is very unhandy. Also, I often have 30 to 40 open tabs, and when I want to save all tabs, I like to do it via the bookmarks manager where I can choose the folder where those tabs need to be saved.

EDIT: Btw., today I got Nightly 59.

 

Here's an interesting blog post about the Quantum Project which describes the parts of this project and how they work together. Not all of them (like WebRender) have landed in FF57 yet and other parts will receive further improvements. So more changes under the hood can be expected in 2018.

 

I went the other way. I dropped back to Fx56 so that I'll be updated to Fx57 and then I'll stay with stable releases

 

v57 is stable, its your crappy profile.

I am seriously having a difficult time telling the difference between Microsoft Edge and Firefox Quantum. The colour hex in the title bar between both browsers is literally the same. Icon alignment, etc., etc.

It is disappointing to see Mozilla, which was once a leader in browser development, losing its way as far as design goes.

On the other hand, it is great to see Mozilla moving forward as far as sandbox and multi-process goes.

 

edge is edge = crap and firefox is firefox = decent. there is nothing to compare, either in design or functionality.
if you mix up design with functionality - poor thinking.

sorry for writing short - firefox 57 is going to exceed helpers time and efforts.
too many people ranting about this and that, missing here and there, comparison like yours.
this iy not helpful and as many times written before - if some dare should stick with 52esr.
ofc it will lose not important data like favicons when downgrading _now_ but it will help users until june to rest in peace^^


best way to get along is to create a new profile and transfer important files.
refresh only with a backup.

I like the design of the new Firefox. Moving away from looking like Chrome is a plus for me. I also see some of the old functionality making a come back, like the bookmarks sidebar. By using Classic theme restorer, I kept using the bookmarks sidebar. For me, the sidebar and getting away from the horrendous look of Chrome was the main reason for using CTR. The new Firefox makes using that addon unnecessary. I like the way Firefox looks and functions now out of the box. All I have to do now to be all set is remove the icons I dont use and I am ready to go. I feel like Mozilla has listen to users like myself.

Strange, I think FF 57 looks more like Chrome than any previous versions. I have finally got it set up satisfactorily, but I still do not like the new modern app look and feel, but that's just me.

Hi Krusty. Chrome is curvy. I like curves in ladies but not in browsers. The new Firefox is square, linear, I like that better. And the drop down bookmarks menu, I never liked it and dont want get used to it. Chrome brought that feature which to me it is very uncomfortable. I like the plain old bookmarks sidebar. And thats what we getting back now out of the box (no need to install an addon for that anymore). In my opinion, whoever designed and came up with the idea of the bookmarks sidebar decades ago is a genius.

We still dont have the option for tabs at the bottom or the status bar, but this are things I can get used to.

What? Thats the new Chrome or something? That looks even more uglier than before, I guess they cant make up their mind and made lines to the side or something like that.

Anyway, look below, thats what my current Firefox looks and how 57 is going to look. Almost identical. You can see a pattern. The only addon icon I use in my UI is NoScript, I now have it in the right hand of the status bar. In the new Firefox, I ll have it where Mozilla wants it, to the right of the address bar. Other than that and the tabs on top, my Firefox will be basically the same as during the past few years.

I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Your setup looks far too busy to me with the Menu bar + tabs under the address bar. Each to their own.
