Let the hunting season begin. With sadness. nuff said. Do you know something most of us don't? I ask because personally I think the Ubuntu of old is gone for good; adopting Gnome feels too much like towel throwing.
As expected. First non-LTS release that adopted a new DE after so many years on Unity; a new display server Wayland instead of the good old X.ORG. This release is meant to be a half baked product released to the public for testing. The feedback will be used to improve 18.04 LTS. Edit: Unity is actually a pretty good DE after so many years of development. Lightweight and fully functional. Anyhow, I don't think Gnome is a bad choice as compared to Plasma. Time will tell. We'll see how Canonical do in 18.04.
Totally agree. I find Unity simple, fast and functional. That's all I would ask for a good DE. The global menu actually could save a lot of desktop space so is also a nice feature. It would have been perfect if Canonical kept Unity but switch to Wayland for display server.
I was so impressed with Unity that when I needed a new laptop I bought one preinstalled with Ubuntu Trusty Tahr. I don't know why Shuttleworth abandoned Unity.
‘Money may have meant Unity’s demise ... ‘ ~ op cit Oh, right, thanks Vasa. I guess that explains it then. I suspected that it was because about 50% of end users appeared to hate it, but apparently I’m wrong about that lol.
