Mozilla, I understand the benefits of WebExtensions, but not this sort of thing - 'more white space' UI, less functionality ...

 

There is no comparison from the old to the new UI.
The new one is seriously deficient and crippled.

 

looks too appleish, that's why it sucks.
put the blame on the trend of making everything mobile-compatible.

 

I'm not familiar with that Nirsoft thingie. But FWIW those cookies info can also be seen in Firefox: Right-click the respective site -> View Page Info -> Security -> View Cookies

 

Well, everything needs to be mobile compatible, doesn't it? Some vendors address the need by offering separate pages formatted for mobile devices, and others try to compromise.

 

Agreed, but I wish vendors would provide separate mouse-friendly and touch friendly interfaces. But maintaining two UIs is costly, so computer users increasingly end up having to use dumbed-down touch UIs..

websites should be "mobile responsive", not "mobile compatible". that's two different things and mobile compatible websites are the ones we complain about.

 

The built-in element hiding functionality also makes it very simple to add custom filters.

 

Firefox is "strip" messaging with suggestions about extensions that ll become incompatible with Firefox 57. I am only getting it for that one addon, not getting it for CTR which will die soon (as no replacement can be suggested).

To get rid of the white space, you open Customize and drag the Flexible space (thats what the white space is called) out of the UI.



Once you do that, the UI looks better. On this example I done that on both ends of the UI.

Am I OK with the coming of the new Firefox? I say yes I am.

Look at my Firefox 56.02 UI in reply 61 and compare it to my UI with Firefox 58.0b1 in reply 62. They look almost identical. As far as I am concerned, no need for CTR anymore. Amazing, looking good. The only difference is I got to place the NoScript icon in the address bar while I am used to using it in the Status bar/Addon bar at the bottom.

Sorry. But, I think I read somewhere that you can still reach the old addons website. I believe it was in a comment in an article about the addons site.

Yes, you can click 'View classic desktop site' (remember desktops and laptops?) at bottom, but it is only remembered for that session.

Hopefully they will keep that option, but maybe not, seeing everyone only uses phones and tablets now, cough.

I agree, the white spaces can go.

But FF57 sure feels snappier.

 

Yep, removed the white blocks. And yes, much faster startup and tab switching compared with 56.

Edit: I see it is also available for Chrome now too. It is pretty limited though as most changes can be made within Chrome settings.
