Maybe it was deliberate to make it harder for malware to access the data.

I wonder if anyone at M$ bothered to test it against real life ransomware. Normally, it will hijack trusted processes to do the encrypting, so there is a big chance Protected Folders won't help. But it might protect against data stealers.

So this whole thing is a pita then? I am on the the Fall Creators Update, but I am using ESET Internet Security. Guess I won't have to mess around with this then. :p

Why is MS making it so cumbersome? Kind of a turn off for the average user no?

I haven't had the chance to upgrade to the fall creators update. But is it true this feature isn't enable by default?

Then Microsoft is still working to make it more user-friendly.

    Trying Controlled Folder Access again.

This time I have only seen CCleaner and Enpass blocked, so added them to exclusions. I've also added PrivaZer and REVO Uninstaller Pro as they would most likely trigger a block. Other than that I can't see any problems with Controlled Folder Access.

I apologize if this has been mentioned previously, but there is a nice Controlled Folder Access Demo Tool available with a simple UI.

There is also a nice demo tool for testing ASR functionality, also with a nice and simple UI.
