For what I know, apart from the nag screen, if you don't register you can't use Kaspersky cloud feature (KSN), which is a must have for new malware protection

Both Russia and USA are directly involved, so they newspapers should not be taken as being obiective in this matter.

I wouldn't say that AV are effective. I have did some testing 3 years ago. I infected my Windows system on purpose. Then I have scanned it from Live CD by 2 AVs, then I did online scan by MBAM. All three products had updated virus definitions and after scanning by these 3 products, my OS was still infected by for example two malicious Firefox addons.
By online I don't mean inside browser. MBAM was installed inside system and did run online meaning inside infected OS.

I suppose it's just a coincidence that Eugene Kaspersky graduated from The Technical Faculty of the KGB.

It really doesn't matter whether that is coincidence or not once the state and their media ****** decide what is going to be the story, that is what the story is and the masses will suck it up regardless.

I suggest to create a new topic about a possible connection of Kaspersky with KGB... this topic should be for the product itself only

It isnt a question of coincidence, it is more a lack of choice thing; where in CCCP one could study applied maths without KGB or gov interference?

LOL, good point. And you know what they say, "where's smoke there's probably fire." I wouldn't be surprised if KAV is actually being used by the Russian government to ex-filtrate data, either via a backdoor or by exploiting security holes inside KAV. It's not clear if Kaspersky Lab is actively involved with spying, but there is no way I would install any or their products. But I don't trust other AV companies either.

    I fully support that wish.
All this paranoid discussions are completely useless in this technical forum.
