I do use my real name on Facebook. With family, and close friends. But I don't write very much. It's just a way to stay informed. I mostly trade links, like everyone else. And I never share anything with anyone about Mirimir and my other personas.
One problem with social networks is that somebody can share something about you. People using FB app on smartphones send their contact list to FB including your number, so this can link you to somebody who you would not want to be associated by FB alghorithms.
There is no reasonable expectation of privacy on Facebook, so I can understand the Judge's ruling on this one. It slurps up everything you feed it and harm is usually self inflicted. It has done harm (and will continue to do so) with its content delivery methodology - fake news. AI will not fix it, no matter what the Big Z says.
Yes, there is that issue. So I limit my network to close family, and real meatspace friends, whom I've been close to for many years.
No surprise at all considering the reach FB has. For some of us privacy means family respects that we don't want certain info posted on places like FB. We can educate them all we like but all the best with that. If we don't even go there we significantly increase our odds of protecting our privacy.
That's not just FB, that's contact lists in general. You could avoid associating your real identity with an email address or a cell phone but if someone who knows you puts your real name against them in their contact list its game over.
Yes. For those who are not aware of it I suggest to read "Facebook friend suggestion that should be impossible" on reddit.
