Anyone know if these two apps will co-exist, or are they like having two Antivirus apps? I'm asking because I definitely want the protection of Faronics...library IT guy is constantly telling me how great it is and how much work it saves him. The Comodo I want to replace XP Pro's System Restore, which I intend to nuke with XPLite Pro.
I work for a library and we use DeepFreeze. It depends on your use case. What is he telling you it is good for?
He says any malware that makes it past their TrendMicro and firewall gets wiped out upon reboot...the DeepFreeze basically resets everything to the previous state. Sorta like Comodo Time Machine I guess, but I think Comodo is closer to System Restore in XP Pro, which is why I'm asking if the two will coexist.
In theory yes thats how its supposed to work. We run ours along side Sophos Endpoint Protection behind a pair of redundant Cisco ASA 5525X's. We have all of our public machines prepped with a baseline image for either Windows 7 or Windows 10 and have domain group policies applied to lock certain things down. Then our DeepFreeze instance sits on top of the base image. We do not have any thawed partitions or safe spaces for people to save to. We have patron management software that automatically kicks users off after 60 minutes of use if people are in the que to use the public machines. Once the software kicks out a 5 minutes remaining message, after those 5 minutes, it initiates a command prompt that reboots the machine. We use it to prevent patrons from getting ahold of other patron data (web browser data, saved or opened documents, etc.) We also use it to manage our patch management for Windows OS and third party patching on those machines. Now that being said because of the maintenance windows for AV updates, Windows updates, third party updates, etc. There are instances that we have seen where some data is actually not wiped so its not 100% fool proof.
Good old Deep Freeze is rock solid when you prefer a complete dismissal after reboot, sort of like a Shadow Defender on steroids. Can't offer much on Comodo TM though. So this doesn't exactly answer your question for compatibility from allowing both on a single system linked in a series network like a library.
Agree, but considering a Library intra-networks preferences, they likely would never even look into a Shadow Defender in comparison so Deep Freeze seems will likely and first most always continue as their standard.
I was intending to pair it with NoVirusThanks EXE Radar Pro, and 1 Click & Lock. From what Google searches tell me these three are compatible and mutually supportive. NoVirusThanks is a cheaper alternative to Faronics Anti-Executable. The 1 Click & Lock defeats the exploit of some hacker that found a way to attack Deep Freeze during first boot.
@Uitlander i won't even think to use them both but rather stick with Deep Freeze, comodo time machine is very bad from my experience and not even updated since years.
As said, Deep Freeze, NoVirusThanks, and 1 Click & Lock is pretty much a done deal...but I still want to get rid of 'System Restore', and replace it with something better. The replacement has to be easy for a newbie to handle, and do a better (more thorough) job than 'System Restore'. Comodo Time Machine was the only app I could find that meets both requirements, but I'm open to suggestions.
The replacement to system restore is to setup Windows Deployment Services and Microsoft Deployment Toolkit to automate system imaging. It totally eliminates the need for system restore and allows for faster deployment for new machines.
