After experiencing quite a few problems wiith Bitdefender IS I have discarded it replacing it with Avast free Antivirus and ZoneAlarm freeFirewall . I do quite a bit of online banking and would very much appreciate advice on what further protection I can add to be as safe as - appreciating that there probably is no total safe.
Use a custom DNS, which blocks some phishing and malware webpages. http://www.zerodollartips.com/best-public-dns-servers-fastest-dns-servers Ad-blockers/anti-tracking extensions also help to block some bad urls.
Many thanks. I have to widen my knowledge about DNS I've only come across this when I tried Comodo IS and it asks you to change to their DNS.
Using Two Factor Authentication is a good way to protect your login credentials. https://www.securenvoy.com/two-factor-authentication/what-is-2fa.shtm
If not sure about your system security, you can use liveCDs to run clean OS when banking. Or install 2 OSs and use one of them only for online banking.
I do all my banking on-line. And I use W10's Windows Defender and Windows Firewall as my primary security. I also have Malwarebytes as my secondary/supplemental scanner for a double check. Malwarebytes has never found anything Windows Defender let slip by. Remember, you, the user, are ALWAYS the weakest link in security. The best security set up in the world is worthless if you open the door and let the bad guy in. Keep your operating system and security software current. Don't be "click-happy" on unsolicited links, downloads, pop-ups, and attachments. Make sure you navigate to your banks by entering their URLs into your browser's address bars yourself. That is, do NOT access your bank by clicking on links in emails. Make sure your browser has established a secure link with your bank - ensure the padlock in your browser is locked. Use unique and very strong passwords for each site. Passwords should include both upper and lower case letters, numerals, and special characters. Pa$$w0rd and 0b1-W@nKen0b! are not good passwords. Avoid banking via free wifi "hot spots" such as found in Internet cafes, airports and hotel rooms. In fact, use Ethernet whenever possible, even at home. Keep your operating system and security software current - worth repeating!
online banking is no matter of installed security software - its a matter of how much do you trust your current used browser? ofc the system has to been malware free, installed security software can take care of. never never, either phone or tablet or or... safe passwords are a matter of course - no need to talk about. if you dare take a live linux!
Good points Bill. I also do all my banking on-line. Will not go to banking accounts using wifi even at home. Always use the Ethernet.
