Interesting new look, will perhaps give it a try again. Hopefully the problem with constant disk writes has disappeared.

It was mentioned before that that "problem" which btw it is not it's a feature that causes disk writes, could be workaround disabling Auto Backup feature.

Yes, I think I read that, but on my system it continued. I checked it via System Explorer.

    Not possible. Try again.
Not calling you a liar, just saying you could miss something in the process last time.

Will test the new version and report back. I really do believe that I disabled auto-backup, so either it was something weird on my system, or System Explorer isn't working correctly.

Slightly OT, but I do believe this is abandonware, unfortunately :( - I do like it though, good product.

AppCheck is writing files to these folders: AutoBackup(AppCheck) and Backup(AppCheck)
If the size of these folders doesn't increase and you are still seeing disk writes ... :cautious:

    Good tip, will check it.

Correct, but the current version works just fine. I doubt that it's giving me false readings.

I have tested it, and it still happens, I get constant disk reads and writes of 15KB. I can see this in both System Explorer and Process Explorer. It even happens when all protection is turned off, it only stops if I terminate AppCheck! I wonder if this disk reading and writing is needed to offer protection in the first place? I wonder if HMPA and RansomOff also show this behavior. Also, can someone tell the developer to make the GUI remember its position? I like it to be centered.

Constant 0 bytes - Disk reads / Disk write bytes ("real" disk reads + writes)
I/O reads + writes is ~13.8kb/s and this is normal.

Wait a minute, so you're saying that it's not the same as disk writes? Which tool are you using?

At least I/O read/writes is showing "more" than actual disk read/writes. It also includes network and device I/O or named pipes.
If you want a overview of processes which are reading/writing files to your disk, launch Process Hacker with administrator rights and switch to the "Disk"-tab.

I/O write bytes of AppCheck.exe is constantly rising (~14kb/sec) even if the system is idle, but only a few kb/s disk activity can be seen in the Disk tab (from other processes, but not AppCheck.exe)

OK, so you're saying that System Explorer and Process Explorer don't show pure disk writes? I just downloaded Process Hacker but it gets flagged as malware on VT.

I'm only saying that i can't see disk writes of AppCheck.
Process Explorer is able to show disk writes too, Column "Disk Write Bytes". Juse use the appropiate Column for monitoring of disk writes.

I guess you're right. I now see there is a difference between I/O and disk writes. I suppose the constant I/O writes are necessary in order for AppCheck to constantly monitor the system. I have been running it for 2 weeks without any problems. But what about latest test results, is it really that good? I did find this review:

No file was lost and AppCheck protected against "all major test threats" :cautious:
There was one issue but they were not sure if their configuration or AppCheck was the culprit.

Yes, this was a quite positive review. But I wondered if you know about other tests? I must admit I'm a bit lazy to watch videos on YouTube, and it's often also not clear how tools perform in those videos.

I'm not aware of other current tests or maybe i haven't searched deep enough in the web.
Btw.: on the website of AppCheck you can find over 600 videos.

Nice find, must have missed that. This does indeed give me confidence, but I'm not expecting to get a 100% protection rate. For these kind of tools I would already be happy with 90%.

Perhaps because of the missing MBR-protection?
