New version: simplewall v2.0.9b (Release Candidate) (25 September 2017) https://www.henrypp.org/product/simplewall Download Changelog sha256 checksum
Setting a custom rule for a program i entered 80,443 to block (as in the example), and always get a praising, syntax error. So doing the port blocking won't work here. If I just enter one port at a time it seems to work. But I don't want to make two separate rules. New beta wont start on re-boot ( yes, is checked to start). Don't like not being able to block listening ports. Seems to get worse on every beta release. The 165 works the best on win 7 64.
Ok, i hear you! Windows Firewall does not block them too. So many bugs because of it. So 165 is final release - he also passed the hard way before release , 2.x is beta version, i hope all bugs being fixed before release.

Bug. It happened after deleting a couple of custom rules. System tray app can't open context menu, nothing. Had to terminate it manually.
Previous apps.xml: Code: <item path="C:\Program Files\Blue Ridge Networks\AppGuard\AppGuardAgent.exe" timestamp="1502115578" is_silent="true" is_enabled="false" /> New apps.xml modified by simplewall v2.0.10b: Code: <item path="c:\program files\blue ridge networks\appguard\appguardagent.exe" timestamp="1502115578" is_silent="true" is_enabled="false" /> I like more the way it was, with uppercase letters.
WTH is going on with this? Just updated to v2.0.10b an it started to show. https://youtu.be/36zRrQ43JLE
It's a bug, now fixed. Update to 2.0.11b and remove lowercase "system" from the list, filters does not recognize this process in lowercase! PS: also fixed special rules for apps did not working, now all is A-Ok! Release v.2.0.11b · henrypp/simplewall · GitHub

Of course, I think that's the paramount reason for third party firewalls to exist. Once you make your choice about it you can silence further alerts.

I noticed something new, for me. Is the file rules_config.xml generated by simplewall.exe? Because I don't see it in the portable packages.
I gather that simplewall is still a relatively new product, but how does it compare to Binisoft WFC? I am interested in relative 'strengths', especially from the perspective of a firewall 'noob' ...
Weeeell.... It's simple and blocks definitely all, until you allow connection for applications manually. Try it, it have no installation required. Two clicks and it works.
How can I create a rule with a port range ? For example, I want to allow Explorer.exe, outbound on the single IP address with a port range: 127.0.0.1:1024-5000 SimpleWall tells me there is a syntax error in the rule. I do not want to allow explorer.exe free reign and simply allow "all" If I do not do this, I keep getting popups to create a different rule every time explorer.exe tries to connect with a different port. ~~~~~ What does "Allow Listen Connections for All" checkbox do in the new beta ? Thanks.
Rules editor have rules examples, for ip range you can use only port (not port range), also you can use port range without ip, and ip range. If it is unchecked simplewall do block listen connections, some peoples request. I am do not recommend uncheck this because of lot of bugs on some software may happen.
