I've already reported this to Dan and he is working on a fix. It's something to do with having non English US region settings.

    +1.

@Baldrick previously suggested VS created a default safe rule if one didn't want to explore the various options, which I think is a good idea, and one which Dan should consider implementing: https://www.wilderssecurity.com/threads/voodooshield.313706/page-699#post-2705136

Edit: @Baldrick I have posted a link to your suggestion on the 'other forum' :).

That is good to hear. I read about it in the other forum, just did not realize it was @Baldrick bug.

    @paulderdash thanks for the +1.
I did pass on @Baldrick suggestion to Dan on the other forum, shortly after he posted in here. I also asked Dan about the rules. I guess it is challenging time for him trying to iron out the new VS and answering all questions.
I'm positive in time, there gonna be answers for everybody.

:thumb: Perhaps that suggestion, and more info about rule creation, will trickle to the top, in time.

Edit: An example: In Smart mode I repeatedly get a warning for googleupdate.exe. I'd like to create a rule to silence it, but I am not sure what options to select. So I just Allow now, but it comes back.

I do not use Chrome, though I use iTunes I disabled iTunes helper. I have just a handful of programs that logon at startup and run in the background. So I hardly get any warning.

then why are you throwing passive-aggressive comments here. i'm running it in Smart mode since 4.00 and there are no issues if you have a some up there to create rules..

Since you are a new member I shall assume you don't realise I've used VS for quite a while. What I liked about VS was its simplicity. That simplicity appears to no longer exist. I'm watching and waiting for VS to be user-friendly again.

    Passive-aggressive? Don't make me laugh!

Morning All, well, first the bad news...opening up Chrome again resulted in a 'flurry' of incessant prompts from VS despite a previous made rule that I cannot see in the Rule Viewer...so looks like v4.04 does not fully solve the 'chatty' demeanour of VS...at least not yet. :( Also, when I try to creat a new rule, for one that I believe I have created before VS indicates that I cannot as the same rule already exists...so in a way that is good...they are being recorded (even if we cannot see them)...but the bad news is WHY are they not being applied...unless they cannot if they cannot be seen? Well, hopefully Dan will figure that one out...as he normally does. ;)

The good news is that no issues as far as I can see with CPU usage and overall everything else appears to be normal.

Personally, I have to agree with the aforementioned comments/suggestions that it should be possible to switch the Rules functionality On/Off, like that for Anti Exploit, as to be honest the rules creation process will put some, if not many, users off (at least until they undestand how it all works and what all the options means...which is not intuitive IMHO).

But my absolute favourite new option would be that if one clicks on one of the amin options, i.e., Allow/Install or Block, and leaves the Rule option as 'Create Rule' then VS automatically configures a rule, to block or allow/install, according to best practice, i.e., as to system coded logic. I would assume that is possible and it would make a nice option, especially as once the rule is so created using the Rule Viewer would allow the user to review and hopefully understand, and if necessary then 'tweak' the rule if not quite right.

Ok, I know some are over at MT whereDan is, so if yo can get the above to him...great...if not I will email him direct with it...in the hope that it helps.

    Have a great Sunday, all.

    Regards, Baldrick

HI paulderdash...I have the same issue with googleupdater, and others...and have try a number of rule s with different combinations (reverting my system after each one) and not seem to help...so I must be missing something in realtion on how or what to create...but as has been said Dan must have his hands full...and we do need some hard guidance/information on the logic behind the rules, and preferrably some examples.

but then, I'm not getting any prompts running chrome on win7. I had an issue with something else, and I set VS to train for a short period and that fixed my issue. 4.04b seems aok here.

In the next build Dan is moving the token from appdata to programdata because CCleaner keeps deleting it when computer is shut down and we end up re- registering.

Lucky me too. No registration, autostart or any other issue since yesterday and I started and restarted hips of times just to be sure before reporting.

Yes running at startup without using the tweak. I'm amazed as anybody else as I should have the registration issue.

From his explanation over in the other forum when posting about v4.05, it isn't necessary it seems: "Also, a lot of people are asking about the new Rules feature. The Rules feature is STRICTLY optional… much like the Custom Folders feature. Most users will not use it, but in a few months when we have had the chance to build it out a little more and add more parameters, I think it will be a very cool feature because we will be able to build and share rulesets, and even users who have no interest in learning how to create rules will benefit because they will be able to select their favorite ruleset. At that point, VS will pretty much be totally silent, but still block what it needs to." - Dan Butler

Had a little hiccup, after first uninstalling v4.04b, and then rebooting, and fresh installing v4.05b, it seems.

    VS_ Fresh In stall_v4.05b_02.JPG

It began taking a snapshot, all the same.

In the meanwhile, I entered my registration details, and it came back with this, but notice the date it expires. It says it has expired.

Send Dan an email. he'll get you sorted as it is obvious from the expiry date that it is a glitch.
    All smooth here with 405b.

After a reboot, the registration glitch has fixed itself, and all is OK. Phew, what a relief. :)
