I would tell Best Buy, just because practically everything in your store has Made in China stamped on it doesn't mean you should therefore follow typical Chinese Government policy by denying the people the right to choose for themselves.

Totally agree, AV's have become a security risk. The problem is that some AV's may use sneaky ways to bypass Win Firewall and HIPS, which makes it impossible to monitor them.

And so is this just the one Best Buy in Minnesota or all Best Buy?

Edit: Just remembered the Best buy headquarters is in Richfield Minnesota.

I guess Dr. Web will be the next av caught up in the bizarre anti-Russia hysteria. It is really silly.

A lot of people have spent their entire adult lives making enemies of the Russians, they're not about to stop that now.

Bad joke. My mother lives in Miami, she was going to leave but in the end, decided to stay and ride out the hurricane. She doesn't use Kaspersky.

So you think it was a joke but you take my words literally? Man, obviously you didn't understand a thing (Jeez, to believe that every person staying home is using Kaspersky). OMG.

Half of million Floridian have evacuated their homes to protect their life, that is a serious matter. You think its funny, you are using other peoples suffering to promote your views, that is tasteless.

Exactly. Yet another company I am going to refuse to do business with because they acted on something with no proof. IF there is any it will be the end of Kaspersky. Nobody would ever use their product again, myself included. If not, this is just stupid.

Wonder if they are willing to sell those "pulled" product boxes for discount to any other person/shop/organisation willing to buy or stock the product? If yes, might be worth it.

I still wonder if you really understood what I meant, the "fearless" people which don't give a damn about either still using K or staying home despite of the "risks". Stay safe using Kaspersky. Peace.

Peace? I ll always say Yes to that.:thumb:

But about staying safe using Kaspersky. On that my friend, I can't agree. Personally, I don't use antivirus, one reason is because I am safer by not using one. You probably wont agree with that but I truly believe that's the case. But even if I used an AV, I wouldn't use Kaspersky. Not because I think Mr Kaspersky is a bad person or the AV is no good but because I know from personal experience the things that businessman like him that live in countries like his have to go through to be allowed to carry on with their business.

Macstorm, I am being very careful about what I am writing as yesterday I wrote another post in this thread, and it got censored. So, thats all I am going to say about that. Read between the lines.

About the fearless people who stay home. In the particular case of my mother, she stayed not because she (and my brother who stayed with her) is fearless but because in their case, staying was the wise thing to do. They had plans to leave Miami, plans on going 400 miles up north to Jacksonville or to the west coast of Florida. If they had left early and gone to either of the 2 places they had in mind, they would be worse than they are now as Miami was sort of spared by the hurricane, and the west coast was hit harder than Miami and Jacksonville is gonna be flooded. Downtown Miami is like a river right now, and 75% of the people in Dade county don't have electricity but South Florida is gonna be fine.

Two of my brothers and their families left the state, I was very worried on Thursday when my mom told me that she was thinking about staying home and ride out the hurricane. I know she is OK but I couldn't contact her at all today, no mail, no phone, nothing. One of my brothers who took refugee in Philadelphia contacted her and he call me so I know she is fine. In the end, her decision to stay was not a fearless decision but a good one.

Anyway, no hard feelings. Hopefully this post don't get deleted and you get to read it.

I'm surprised no American company has offered a free license for Kaspersky subscribers yet...

    No worries, buddy.

I'm glad that your mother and every member of your family is safe. Don't misunderstand me, I'm always closely following the dramatic events and aftermath of Irma in Florida. I never meant to minimize the drama happening there, it's just i spotted a "link" between the article posted by Hawki above and the people who are dealing with the hurricane in FL. I apologize if you felt it inconvenient in any way.

    Stay safe always ;)

It´s a perfectly normal and expected behavior in a competitive market economy.

If you find Vipre's ploy distasteful, you are not the intended target audience. Exploiting the current climate of paranoia toward Russian software by a US-based company is business as usual. Pure opportunism.

It's only normal if you are willing to accept it as normal. I don't. As @plat1098 said it's distasteful opportunism and fear mongering.
