Here is a guy that had a similar problem. From your screen shot that is a Shadow Defender driver ( diskpt.sys ). I am using Windows 10 with secure boot enabled but not using Pro so don't have Device Guard.

    Shadow Mode on Boot?
Is Enter Shadow Mode on Boot just for convenience = enter Shadow Mode automatically.
I mean is Enter Shadow Mode on Boot session any different than Enter Shadow Mode from desktop.
    Thanks

It means the machine will boot in shadow mode every time you start it. It is particularly useful when one shares a machine with others users, and you could also password it to make sure it stays in shadow mode all the time.

Okay, I had not considered other user nor password control.
[..] "stays in shadow mode all the time"... but, current shadow session does not survive restart. Correct?

Has anyone seen this on Windows 10 1607 x64 when entering in shadow mode?

It appears frequently. Just close the open files. If you ignore the warning, Office may report some minor problems when you open the files after rebooting.

Correct, the shadow session does not survive a restart, the point is to protect the machine from unwanted changes from other users. However, with fast startup turned on, when I shut down the machine from the start menu, the shadow session is preserved (not in the sense of a reboot, but as in hibernation) although it is not an official feature of SD.

What files? SD pops up that message every time I start the machine and I manually enter in shadow mode, as usual.
I never open a file or program at startup prior shadow mode.

Hi Mr X, you can totally disregard that message. I am not using SD in my W10 and dont recall seeing the message in W7 but saw it many times in XP. So, I am very familiar with the message. I always ran SD on demand and it would appear sometimes immediately after clicking to get in Shadow mode. I never, and I mean never have had any program or file open before getting in Shadow mode, and the message would appear. When I searched about the message, I found other people getting it. Also found a reply or two from Tony at the SD forum that was set up by Patrick where he stated the message was basically a reminder to close anything you have open before getting in Shadow mode.

Yes, I noticed I can disregard the message and see no side effects after 4 days playing W10 + SD combo, lol.
    Thanks.

Hmm. Okay. "protect the machine from unwanted changes from other users".
Shadow Mode on Boot is the same "shadow" as Shadow Mode from desktop.
    Thanks
Hmm2. I'm not a fan of Fast Startup. Do you also check Enable hibernation in Shadow Mode?
    Thanks

Yes, I do have hibernation and Fast Startup enabled on two Win 10 1703 machines, and never had any problems...

Yes I do, hibernation is checked in SD. I have no problems on two different machines, but other people might still experience some issues, and for the record my SD is version 665...

Hmm, Shadow Defender (online) Help Frequently Asked Questions
    and no mention (built-in Help © 2007-2014 SHADOWDEFENDER.COM
) of Enable hibernation in Shadow Mode. Time for Help re-write. :isay:

Yes if you shut down your computer all changes remain. I learned that one along time ago. Then someone explained you actually have to restart for the changes to be gone. I usually exit shadow mode from desk top. it then reboots, all changes gone and back out of shadow mode.

All changes remain, true, but you are still in shadow mode. Starting up your computer (with fast startup enabled) will continue the shadow session, the only way to reboot in normal mode is to do it from the SD GUI or with a proper restart (which will ignore fast startup).

    Hi,
    I've got a problem.
I have a folder excluded and in a sub-folder a .ini keeps disappearing at randoms reboots. I haven't noticed any other file missing.
    SD starts at boot
    Windows 7 embedded x64 ;SD 668

Can SD be used also as " Try and Decide ", to try a new software and then eventually to restore the system deleting the software ?

Yes, but only if the installation does not require a reboot. To "uninstall", reboot.
