Currently using ExpressVPN for another month then i plan on switching to IVPN. That chart just helped me make my decison!
Thanks. So, privacy conscious people should use: AirVPN AzireVPN CactusVPN CryptoStorm FrootVPN IVPN NordVPN OVPN.se OVPN.to Perfect Privacy PIA Privatoria secureVPN.to SlickVPN Trust.zone VikingVPN VPNSecure WindScribe
According to the chart for "simple VPV comparison","Cyber ghost" shows green" for "privacy logging" which is "generally good". According to this link from this forum--->[EXPOSED] CYBERGHOST VPN KEEP LOGS
Good point. However, that chart just summarizes what VPN providers say. For ~150 VPNs, that's a lot of work. Checking everything against everything on the net about each one would be a LOT of work. But hey, I'll ping him about this on /r/VPN. I'm pretty sure that he's already read about it.
Okay, I just registered with NordVPN which looks good from that chart and from various reviews. And it's cheap: Right now they offer a yearly subscription for just 3 USD per month. Setup was easy. The general question remains: How do you know that you can trust the VPN of your choice? Paper (or any website) doesn't blush.
Always check for leaks. See https://www.ivpn.net/privacy-guides/how-to-perform-a-vpn-leak-test If your ISP provides IPv6 service, also check for IPv6 leaks. First, see if you have a temporary IPv6 address. That's the one that gets used on the Internet. In Windows, use "ipconfig /all". In OSX and Linux, use "ifconfig". Then hit http://test-ipv6.com/ and see if it shows your temporary IPv6 address. If it does, while the VPN is connected, you have an IPv6 leak. You can also "ping 2a01:7a0:3:121::1" (use ping6 in OSX and Linux). If that works, you have IPv6 connectivity. Then browse http://ipv6.google.com/ to see if you also have IPv6 DNS. If you have IPv6 leak, you can disable IPv6 in the network adapter. You can also use firewall rules that block IPv6, or a VPN client that does that for you. Within a couple weeks, I'll have a website with leak-testing results for about 30 VPN services. You can't know. All you can go by is what people share about them. And much of the time, you can't trust those people, because they're idiots, or are being paid to trash competitors. It's a hard problem. That's why I like chaining VPNs. You don't need to trust any of them as much.
The impossible task of creating a “Best VPNs” list today http://arstechnica.com/security/2016/06/aiming-for-anonymity-ars-assesses-the-state-of-vpns-in-2016/
Windscribe is a VPN I've never heard of before. Does anyone have any opinions of it. It seems to be viewed positively here; getting all but two bars green and the other two orange. It seems to have good features; openvpn by default, firewall (killswitch) to prevent IP and DNS leaks, fast servers (every speedtest I ran gave me 50mbps with the US servers. They also have a browser extension, which supposedly... It also seems to have a fairly straightforward privacy policy: I mention this to get feedback. It looks to be a nice, new, up and coming, vpn. But sites can say whatever the hell they want without a shred of truth. This site has a lifetime license for $39, which could be a steal if it's as good a VPN as thatoneprivacysite seems to think.
mirimir - I have a question for you. Judging by thatoneprivacysite.net, AirVPN and Mullvad have the most green bars than any other listed VPN. I can conclude based on that fact that those two VPNs are the "best." Which of the two would you chose to use yourself? Why not the other? I'm trying to determine which one I want to use, and I like both, so any advice would be appreciated. n8
Is it just me? I find it ironic that when I visit thatoneprivacysite.net that CanvasBlocker fakes canvas fingerprint.
My ScriptSafe in Chrome shows 1 canvas fingerprint blocked but NO fingerprint block by TunnelBear Blocker in Chrome However, in Youtube, my TunnelBear Blocker in Chrome shows many fingerprints being blocked but NONE by ScriptSafe Strange results......
Generally, my favorites are AirVPN, BolehVPN, IVPN, Mullvad, OVPN.se, Perfect Privacy and PIA. AirVPN and IVPN have the best custom clients, I think. But any of them are fine if you use a firewall. I don't take all of TOPG's rating criteria seriously. I can't imagine why his site would be grabbing canvas fingerprints. Maybe ask him.
Hmm, I've never heard of TunnelBear Blocker but I do also have ScriptSafe installed. Trying TunnelBear Blocker now. Thanks!
