That's what I've been saying all along, SmartScreen isn't really an AV, so it shouldn't be included in AV testing, at least not the system wide variant. SmartScreen is also available to browser where it will block access to known malicious sites, and it now also includes some form of exploit protection on Win 10.

Interesting stuff, this will put the heat on third party AV's.

Yes, Windows Defender has improved but it's still weak regarding ransomware imho

It is getting better. It stopped a ransomware attack at my job with one user a few weeks ago where our normal AV did not.

My opion is just based on my own testing, and from observations from my workplace.

I'm sorry not good enough. No just kidding, scores were pretty good. But what does "user dependent" mean, does WD alert users about certain stuff? Does it now have a behavior blocker? Because that's basically what my discussion was about in the WD ATP thread.

To be honest, I don't know either. Perhaps Martin_C or IBK can help in this regard.

Windows Defender has been doing behavioral monitoring and blocking of suspicious behaviors, for quite some time now. All fully automated.
Additionally it does light machine learning locally on client, while offloading the more intense instances to the cloud for detonation with the full set of algorithms.
    It does local emulation.
    It does heuristic detection.
And signature based detection, from local signatures as well as pulling in signatures dynamically.

A really powerful combination, as testing shows. :thumb:
