    With the lack of firewall?
To me it is\has been a pain trying to find a nice simple replacement, not using a front-end controller.
    Giving ZAP a try.

    Their reasoning is sound:

I don't think Emsisoft is "going in a direction", just taking a reasonable decision.

Sure, Windows firewall is adequate for me.

Really, won't use win firewall, the company that collects every movement that you do, like goole .
So sad that people don't care about privacy.

Firewalls have been useless for years (sinca Vista), no wonder they are all being discontinued. I wonder how long, before even MS finally ditches it and keep it as optional for enterprises.

Oh man really? If you feel that way, why do you run Windows 10 then? We need @Bill_Bright to chime in.

What lame statement, going the direction of the sheepal ? Don't take that personal, but the lack of free thinking now is just amazing.

Now you've touched on why I am still on Win 7. I've looked at all the firewall stuff out there and if I do it(not totally decided yet) it will be with ZoneAlarm Firewall Pro. Didn't like the free version.

With regards to the Windows Firewall, I was under the impression that if you're using a router that it is doing most of the work anyway. Perhaps the users who aren't happy with Emsisoft's decision are not behind a NAT router/DSL modem.

Then move to Linux, like I did, exactly for privacy reasons; and if you still need Windows for some reason then dual boot.

Indeed, firewalls do not really do anything extra and with the deprivation of IPv4 addresses, I doubt many people have a public IP. Firewall is just an obsolete piece of software. Even without a firewall, all ports are closed, so any incoming connection is blocked, unless there is an app with an open port, like a sharing app like bittorrent, but it would be allowed in a firewall anyway, so?!

I have a stinking feeling If you don't have a good firewall it just makes the anti-malware companies catch more (makes them look good).
If you have a wall nothing much to catch.

I am all about privacy, but in today's day and age, it is no more. I can't be bothered with blocking every port, service, running a VPN etc. In my opinion, if you do that, it just makes your more suspect in the end. As for the govt, if they want to get into a system they will.

Now if you want to talk about a software firewall to monitor outbound stuff, that is cool. Heck, maybe I will even try out ZoneAlarm Firewall Pro since you mentioned it. Is there a trial?

I don't know if it's the "right" direction for all users but it's the right decision for Emsisoft. I'll be subscribing to Emsi for the foreseeable future; it's a good product.

That's the thing with M$ updates W7 & up you never know when they'll add another telemetry service or re-enable a disabled telemetry service.

Very interesting thoughts, I will look for more information about this.

I'm also convinced Windows firewall is enough. One should check with GRC ShieldsUP whether any ports are open closed or stealth:

They will test fine, It's just you have to really manually configure it you want outbound. Setting up ZA Pro wasn't bad at all, and it''s running smoothly on my win 7 machine.

They gave good reason for their decision so I support it.
