I'm interested how this will be implemented:

Thnx. So it probably won't be configurable?

Very good, actually this feature is why I subscribe to Emsisoft.

If there had been another method, I would have asked that the firewall enhancement be optional.

Can Windows Firewall be configured to block/ask for outgoing connections by unknown/not-digitally-signed programs/apps?

So EMIS as advertised "Kick-Azz" Firewall ain't so "Kick-Azz" afterall ? Is that it?

Will new EAM behavior blocker give an option to ask for permission when an outgoing connection is to be made to a "privacy-risk" destination like EMIS does now ?

I for one and a host of my colleagues at the office when we saw that Emsisoft IS was good. We(they) all shifted from Norton to Emsisoft. Now it seems that the Norton agent will have some deals to boot for the group. Those who aren't as techy needs a suite firewall to do the job for them. As Emsisoft said, "Less risk of misconfiguring the protection features" -- but Windows Firewall need "proper tinkering/configuration" to be effective. Compared to the Emsisoft firewall, Emsisoft's is much easier to configure. Just my two cents there especially for those not as techy as most of the members.

Now that's a question for Fabian! (though it seems the answer is "no" -- because it will be you who will configure "incoming/outgoing connections" in the lovable Windows Firewall). Time to check on TinyWall again.

Yeah. Just posted on EMIS Forum.

EMIS is currently no longer for sale on Emsisoft Site.- Maybe something to do with as advertised "Kick-Azz Firewall" = embarrasing.

New EAM destined to share marketing history with "The New Coke" of 1985 and Virgin Mobile's new iPhone only "The Inner Circle."

Wow neat! I could kind of see this coming based upon recent comments from Fabian and some others. That is really nice of them to extend the licenses of current EIS customers. I know I am psyched. Cheers Emsisoft!

-- Perhaps..as there are a lot of issues with Emsisoft IS firewall and it seems they just gave up. I for one had previous issues with the "Always block this application -impossible to run" but then again it ran and just the same. I had to use a 3rd party tool to circumvent that issue and still use EIS.

Yeah, you can modify Windows Firewall settings through things like the registry.

They already have AutoRun modification protection, so they can easily filter out for Windows Firewall and if the process performing the changes are not the genuine Windows Firewall processes then = block. And malware won't be able to perform RCE injection into the genuine processes thanks to Emsisoft BB already covering injection... I assume this is what they will do.

    Pretty good transition IMO

We always allowed users to convert between products. There are plenty of users in this forum who did exactly that. Just shoot the support an email and they will get on it.

You can turn it off and on per process in the application rules most likely. If a new application tries to mess with the Windows Firewall settings, you will get a popup about it and allow it. It defaults to denying the access to the firewall after 10 seconds in the default configuration, similar to the new auto-resolve feature.

Default configuration of EIS and the default Windows firewall is actually identical. We too allow by default. So both require tinkering if you want to restrict further. The biggest disadvantage of the Windows firewall has always been, that it is easy for malware to mess with it. We can fix that using our behaviour blocker.

Prices haven't changed at all. EAM is still $39,95 as it always has been:

    https://webcache.googleusercontent..../en/order/software/ &cd=2&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=uk

I would appreciate it if you could stop posting untrue statements.

Anyone who watched the product for a while could have known it was coming. We haven't implemented any changes to the firewall in ages. Not that a firewall in itself is a concept that has much room to innovate upon.

Which wasn't an EIS or firewall specific issue at all but also affected EAM users. It has since been fixed. Aside from misconfiguration issues, the firewall part of EIS didn't cause a lot of issues.

There are a few things more to it. Changed registry keys only become active after a reboot. But there are other ways to interact with the Windows firewall like a COM-based API and a command line interface through netsh.exe. The next version covers those methods as well.

Hmmm, can't help wondering with all these AV's ditching more and more options....maybe going with for example WD which is becoming better and better with each OS release and Voodooshield could be a better option with an AV made for and by the OS vendor?

For the benefit of those who are not that techy enough, Emsisoft should show how it is to be set/done so they have guidance. That default-allow was true with EIS. It allowed most of what I restricted. Allowed bandwidth to be eaten(wasted) up by applications even if you do not use or run that application. And that "fix" was months/builds before finally really "FIXED" it and then now (after fixing it), bye bye firewall component..huh?

So no sense testing that ""Always block this application -impossible to run" just a waste of time now. I really think that "more explanation" should have been posted at the Emsisoft Forums about the "new feature" you were stating instead of having it posted elsewhere.

Need to tap Binisoft and VS now :)

So basically, they are taking the approach of WFC. I'm not sure what to think of this, I think behavior blockers should always have the ability to block outgoing connections, separately of the Win Firewall. But I have to agree that Win Firewall is already a good product from a technical point of view.

we are talking about paid product which part of of the quality we are expecting from a product we pay for is also their support. I have never had any issues to need any of their support but i do not have a lot of time either so whenever i need an answer someone has to help me out. Email support sucks . Take for instance BullGuard support ....excellent or even AVG or AVAST. And at the end part of their busyness is also their costumers .
