If you already have OpenVPN installed and it is connected, then you will get the error that all TAP-Windows adapters are in-use. You cannot run VPNs that use the OpenVPN client simultaneously with IVPN. You have to make sure that they are not connected. One of those other VPNs is more than likely occupying the TAP-adapter whether it is connected or not. You'll have to troubleshoot. Having multiple VPNs installed on a system is a recipe for issues.
I tried the Nord trial along with a couple of other VPNs installed at the same time. They all had their own TAP adapters installed. Had no TAP conflicts with that arrangement, but eventually uninstalled Nord and kept the others. 100% satisfied with Windscribe at this point, have upgraded to the paid version.
Yes, I sorted it out, and uninstalled vyprvpn which appeared to be the "culprit" (there's a much longer story involved in the fix but probably unique to me). However, protonvpn is also installed and works aok too, and it uses openvpn (my limited understanding). I don't run them at the same time, but both appear to be working fine, secure and private (no obvious leaks). I will say that ivpn support was most helpful by email. I have nothing bad to say about vypr (and I don't understand this deeply enough anyway -- the inner workings), but from what I could see, vypr does its connection "differently" than ivpn. I posted here since new to ivpn and was not sure about their support. I'm happy and intend to read more and maybe learn something too
IVPN is debatably one of the best, if not the best, VPN service. When I need a VPN, I use IVPN. There has been some stuff, but comparatively speaking most of it was fairly harmless - annoying - but harmless.
Yep! Used Nord and have nothing bad to say about them or their sevice. Asked them for a refund and received it in a day. IVPN (paid) just suits me better and the speed is much better. Was back in Hawaii and connection to LA was only slightly slower than at home. Sometimes the app crashes, but like Lockdown said, annoying but harmless. Happy with my choice, Robert
i wouldn't say the best but it surely is above industry average. insorg.org, ovpn.to and securevpn.to are solid choices too, imo.
another ivpn question or perceived "anomaly" (but gee I really like ivpn). When I connect Dallas, ipleak_dot_net shows the DNS as Dallas but shows my ip address as Providence Utah. I asked support about this and so far the answers do not compute. They suggested that I /flushdns and did and no change. They suggested that I use their client, but I am using their windows client. Would appreciate it if someone here would connect to Dallas and then see what IP you get for DNS and for your IP address. Not seeing obvious leaks here. I find this Texas / Utah match as annoying (if not worse??)
Perhaps IVPN runs VPN servers and DNS servers from different data centers, using different ISPs. So they'd have different geolocation data. Also, I gather that all of their VPN servers are VPN-linked, which lets you use any pair for multihop. And I'm pretty sure that none of their DNS servers are usable from the open Internet. Just through their VPN tunnels. So DNS leak sites just report public gateways.
The websites that report via GPS is based upon a purchase database that is usually years old. So the database infos is incorrect. To obtain an accurate location of any system, you have to use a triangulation ping. There are a number of online portals where you can do it. By the way I checked each of the IVPN servers using triangulation ping. The only ones that ping did not verify location that was crystal clear were 2 in Switzerland and 1 in France. Using a ping service I could identify the major city location for all except those three. The results could have been due to routing issues the night I tested. Basically, all IVPN servers are where they advertise them to be. I suspect that they have a Swiss and French server reverse labeled in their client.
This sounds good, I like what you're saying. When I connect to Chicago, both DNS and my ip show the location as Chicago with ipleak. Would appreciate it if someone using ivpn would try Dallas and see what it shows in ipleak. thanks. Meanwhile, I updated KIS_2017 to KIS_2018, 2018 installing over 2017 per kaspersky instructions, and that broke ivpn, getting the message about all tap are in use (or something like that). I assume that will be an easy fix.

Yes, it'd be cool if that site looked at tons of VPNs. Or we could do it here, collectively. The methods aren't that complicated. And there's no need to get subscriptions, unless that's the only way to find server URLs/IPs.
IVPN has proven to be the best and most reliable in my testing. I played the dumb and annoying user and my experience with their support wasn't that good. However, their client, its firewall, and the server speeds were all good. Compatibility with other software was good too. The client has some minor bugs that reveal themselves once in a while. For most people it will come down to a matter of money. Do you need a VPN, and if yes, do you need one of the best that just happens to cost $100 per year ? There is little doubt that what IVPN advertises is what the user actually gets.
just check their "best vpn's for 2017" list out and you'll see it's just one of those so-called privacy sites. vpnarea? seriously? and vyprvpn? you gotta be kidding me. zorrovpn, vpn.ac? duh, no thanks, i'll pass.
Nobody cares about the advertising and atrocious reviews on that site. The people here wanted to know a method to reliably locate the IVPN servers and that is covered in detail in the linked article. So for their convenience I provided the link.
I haven't checked in awhile now. Does IVPN have a good client for linux? I support a few machines for family members and a client helps me solve issues over the phone. I don't care for my own machines.
I've asked about that. I get that it's not a priority for them. The reasoning is that you'd expect most Linux users to handle it themselves. And indeed, that they'd prefer to handle it themselves. They recently did an iOS app, and I get that they're working on one for Android.
