"Or you can append to the installer shortcut /p SKIPPRODUCTCHECK=1 and it should leave WSA untouched." how does one accomplish this??
Tried that. Didn't work for me. Baseline. In a fresh virtual machine, I installed Kaspersky Free. I left "Automatically activate Kaspersky Protection extension in browsers" checked in the Web Anti-Virus section. I installed Chrome and Firefox. Upon launching Chrome, it informs me of the Kaspersky extension and asks if I want to enable it or remove it. Upon launching Firefox, I get no indication of an extension, but in the addons I see it was installed but disabled. Test. Reset the virtual machine. Installed Kaspersky Free. Unchecked "Automatically activate Kaspersky Protection extension in browsers" and for good measure disabled the whole Web Anti-Virus component as well. Installed Chrome and Firefox. No discernible change. Extensions were installed in both by default, although not enabled by default.
Right-click on the installer and choose create shortcut - then go to properties in the shortcut and append the value to the end of line in the target field box and click OK. The double-click saved shortcut and run the installer.
Just installed Kaspersky on a Windows 10 com. I disabled IM and Email protection since I do not need it and uninstalled Secure Connection (they should really make this a user choice during the install setup). I also haven't enabled cloud protection yet and disabled their browser extensions, as well as their script injection option. Coming from Qihoo 360 Total Security Essential, one thing I miss is when a download has finished, Qihoo will have a popup dialog saying that it is scanning the download. With Kaspersky, it's transparent. The CPU during scans is relatively light. Memory usage can fluctuate between 30 to 100MB RAM depending on what is happening on your com. Overall, I'm pretty happy with Kaspersky's free offering. Reminds me of ESET NOD32 before it got overtly bloated.
I agree with the philosophy: AV offerings today are bloatware. KISS - and Kaspersky's approach is the right one to protecting home users. You don't need too much in an AV.
Something is wrong with my kaspersky 2018 internet security then Using that page It allowed the PUA download and the loading of the phishing page. Any thoughts on what's up?
Seems to be running well so far. full scan completed in 12minutes 49seconds. install and update was quick. Only thing I do not like is the tray icon. surely they would want the K icon as it part of the brand. I am thinking that if the paid license expires it will revert back to the free version? This will be a good thing if it does as i have had customers get infected in the past due to the license expiring and no longer having any protection.
Hmm, Kaspersky is idling at around 1-3% and using up to 1MB/sec of disk I/O. Not sure why. I have idle scan disabled. Update: I've restarted my com and a few minutes after startup, everything appears to be fine again... a little odd. I'll keep monitoring this further. Update #2: It appears I needed to add my audio player to the Trusted Applications list under Threats and Exclusions to prevent Kaspersky from scanning files and activity of that app. This seems to have dropped the CPU down.
Does this play nicely and install without issues on Windows 10? I know I paid for KAV a few weeks ago and I couldnt even install it without disabling Windows Defender via GPO.
Installs without issues. It does disable WD because KAV takes over real-time protection but that's expected when you install a third party AV on Windows.
Your missing my point. I know Windows Defender is supposed to be disabled when you are running a third party AV solution. My point is in Windows 10 Creators Update on my machine, KAV was unable to disable Windows Defender during the install, failed, and then rolled back. I had to manually modify Windows Defender via GPO as it is the only true way to disable it in Windows 10. After that I was able to install KAV without issues. With Windows Defender on, KAV refused to install.
It installs the browser extensions anyway. Just remove it from your browser if you don't need/want it.
1. Advanced Settings for Web Antivirus & 2. Settings > Additional > Threats and Exclusions > Check "Detect other software that can be used by criminals" https://malwaretips.com/threads/kaspersky-free-2018-final.73909/page-10#post-655608
LOL, should I play Russian Roulette and install KAV Free? But I've read it feels bloated plus installs an extension. I think it's a bad idea, so no I won't.
Since i have no interest in "IM, Email or Web Protection", would it be better to stick with KAR as it has System Watcher which this very nice offering from Kaspersky unfortunately does not?
I do want AV protection but it was my understanding that KAR with it's System Watcher and Cloud Scanning provided more than just anti ransom protection.
KAR System Watcher is very limited compared to its equivalent in the paid product. It only rolls back ransomware infection. If you install KAV you gain solid AV protection. You'll get more comprehensive real-time AR protection if you install AppCheck in place of KAR.
