What firewall are you running? I'm running Windows Firewall and I simply add the installer stub to my TinyWall frontend and its sufficient to get it to download the AV package.

If you're running a third party firewall, add it to the list of allowed applications and run the installer stub again.

Anyone have any links to tests with this new Free version? Just curious to see how it performs.

I tested it. Kaspersky blocks the page and prevents drive-by downloads/phishing.

So you know the product works!

This global release is great news for many users of free AV. I quite often have setup Bitdefender Free on clients systems for the past handful of years. But I will definitely have a close look at this and, so long as this is relatively problem free and "set and forget" type of AV, I may end up switching my client users over to Kaspersky Free in the near future. :thumb:

Much of that has to do with the current anti-Russian political mood in USA not with Kaspersky's best business practices.

Yeah, not really what I am looking for. Just wondered if anyone had any links to AV testers testing this new free version. I tried it myself last night, but still prefer Avast overall. I still find Kaspersky to be heavy on the system. Always have.

Signature detection should be the same as it is for the paid version. The premium version has additional modules which aren't/won't be included in the free software. Since you mentioned Avast, this is similar to how they work as well.

Seems to like inserting an addon into all your browsers. Has anyone figured out a way to disable this function from Kaspersky Free itself? (ie prevent it from installing the addons to begin with rather than just removing the addons from the browsers after)

Only the basic protection is included but its more than sufficient for home users. You can fill in the gaps with SRP, anti-exploit and anti-ransomware software and you should have a secure system.

Or you can append to the installer shortcut /p SKIPPRODUCTCHECK=1 and it should leave WSA untouched.
