That is a huge move. I used to subscribe to Speccy but moved on to HWinto64.. Wow, hope avast doesn't change anything about CCleaner, nothing. It's my go-to cleaner!
CCleaner, Defraggler, Speccy and Recuva - all great tools. I hope they still get developed after Avast acquisition.
I hope they keep releasing slim version. They might remove it and offer Avast install during Piriform software installation.
That'll be the Piriform team cherry picked and remainder made redundant then! Ccleaner will be absorbed into the security suite as an 'optional' extra and unavailable anywhere else. Lotus Smartsuite a la Microsoft springs quickly to mind here.........................
Didn't they already have Tuneup Utilities as part of the AVG acquisition to fill exactly this space? I fail to understand what they achieve with what appears to be a redundant purchase. Edit: Based on the statements, either Tuneup or Cleaner will be no more after a while.
TU was garbage, when they bought it, that was the reason, it was being sold. It was hardly updated since then. CCleaner is a great security app for cleaning and preventing malware, I guess Avast see it that way as well.
Well, after reading a lot of comments, it really isn't reasonable to expect CCleaner to remain as-is. Once you buy something that belonged to others, you want to make it yours, not theirs. I'll enjoy it while it's still possible. AVG Tune Up worked great until I bought it. Then it was a mass of nothing on here. Best thing to happen to this machine was getting rid of it.
I abandoned CCleaner ever since ***** the secure wiping about 7-8 years ago. Wiping a file with CCleaner back then did nothing and using Recuva, their own recovery tool, files that were several gigabytes in size could be restored completely. I am now a happy user of PrivaZer and it's going to stay that way until CCleaner does something to impress me. They could start by making the automatic updating available for the free version. It's 2017 for **** . Every program should be able to silently update.
CCleaner gone. Now can live up to the name: CRAP cleaner Sold out and left how many back-doors opened?
I guess, PC-Magazines and Download-Portals will start there campaigns: CCleaner, last independent version, download now....
Didn't leave them opened, but leave it to avast to open them. Would you trust it after avast touches the product? I sure must people will.
Avast are up front about what data they collect and in their AV you can opt out, so what's the big deal? I will continue to use CCleaner and Speccy until I see a reason not to. That said, I too hold fears that great products taken over can go down hill.
