Sad day for me. :( I hope there will be people to help the team.

The "Black Edition" team should be the one to step up to keep the project alive.

    Sad for me too

Now what I'm going to use, I wonder.
    Which around is good enough.

You can try MPV and MPC-BE. I don't use Potplayer. It's OK but too much information collection and you don't know what it's collecting. Read its TOC carefully and you'll see what I mean.

Thanks. Is there an official site for MPC-BE?

VLC is great, but there are media that VLC doesn't play correctly, where MPC-HC and MPC-BE do.
For instance, my treasured Wall-E DVD doesn't play correctly with VLC. MPC-HC and MPC-BE play the Wall-E DVD nicely.

SMPlayer is a good option, very light and configurable.

Very true, SMPlayer is a nice player.
I tried it, earlier, but unfortunately, it didn't play the mentioned 'difficult' Wall-E DVD correctly, where MPC-HC and MPC-BE do.

I still rely on MPC-HC almost on a daily basis and I've followed MPC-HC development since the early days when it split from the original MPC. Therefore, indeed, this was unfortunate news to hear. I will continue for some months, I suppose, to see if any other developers come along to bring the project back to life before I can bring myself to find another media player. It is just too perfect; too efficient.

For the time being, I will continue using K-Lite Standard, as I have done for years and years (only one problem in all these years, readily solved through the K-Lite forum).

BTW, I don´t understand why there are so many K-Lite updates. I think I have installed thousands of updates. Do these codecs, etc, never stabilize?

So it would seem that the answer to that question is no, codecs never really stabilize. However K-Lite aren't actually developing the codecs, Microsoft among others are.

Very sad, this is my default media player on Windows. SMPlayer is pretty good though.

You can still keep using MPC-HC, the version bundled with K-Lite is still updated.
