It's impossible to keep it off, it's a known bug.

Tried this after a long time and it caused a lot of problems. First, it deleted Windows Firewall Controls service as false positive. Then after I got rid of Bitdefender I noticed that every automatically starting service was disabled unless it was Windows service. Was this something that Bitdefender Free is capable?

Btw. Bitdefender free's GUI has gone really minimal for easier use. Not something that I enjoyed. There was nothing to control behavior. :/

I posted this in another thread, but finally gave up on Bitdefender after this happened numerous times:

On Thu 6/29/2017 9:19:18 AM your computer crashed
    crash dump file: C:\WINDOWS\memory.dmp
This was probably caused by the following module: atc.sys (atc+0x86525)
    Bugcheck code: 0xEF (0xFFFFB701A80F07C0, 0x0, 0x0, 0x0)
    Error: CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED
Bug check description: This indicates that a critical system process died.
There is a possibility this problem was caused by a virus or other malware.
A third party driver was identified as the probable root cause of this system error. It is suggested you look for an update for the following driver: atc.sys .
    Google query: atc.sys CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED

Good question. Did this new feature just slip in with a recent update? Hopefully someone who has any paid BitDefender software can chime in and share some more details about this feature/module. :thumb:

Free version and paid version provide the same protection. The free version doesn't come with a lot of settings but is on the other hand true 'autopilot'... with the pros and cons that mean.

Paid version has its own module for this and the free does not. Free has signatures only.

Which means, pretty useless against zero-days or new variants... so, it's just marketing...

Free has ATC too. The protection should be at the same level with the paid products. However, paid products have more features.

My point exactly. Free version provides nearly the same protection as paid. The drawback of 'free' version is its lack of settings and features. However, if you don't need Wi-Fi Security Advisor, Password Manager, Search Advisor and File Shredder you're off perfectly fine with Bitdefender Free...

It's a bit like Avast. Both free and paid offer protection against ransomwares via signatures and behaviour modules, but only paid ones have a dedicated module against documents' encryption.

Except for the fact that their driver atc.sys kept crashing my system, sure, it's awesome.

I used to run Bitdefender free on Window 7 and I was a happy camper. I had to switch to Panda because, the occasional conflict when installing /uninstalling new apps became the norm almost since I migrated to Windows 10 and Bitdefender became compatible. It conflicted with my VPN too.
Not an expert here, I did run Bitdefender for quite few years and something definitely changed not for the better. Or maybe it is not quite W 10 compatible yet and that may not even be their fault, microsoft updates keep screwing up things too.

Well, I'm running Avast free on my system now (Windows 10) and all is fine. No more issues and no system crashes. So while I liked Bitdefender, I did get tired of the system crashes.

It is true Bitdefender Free causes problems. On certain setups I get BSODs too. :(
