After the latest ABP update 2.9 broke on Seamonkey/Thunderbird, I uninstalled it and tried uBO, which worked flawlessly. I uninstalled ABP, its element hider helper, Disconnect, and No Script, just leaving uBO on Seamonkey. I now use uBO on every browser except Slimjet, in which I use the built-in ad blocker.
When Adblock started accepting payments from companies to whitelist ads, I instantly uninstalled it. Ublock Origin replaced it and it works better and faster, so that's a plus.
Am not very familiar with these 'blockers'. Frankly I wasn't aware of uBlock Origin or other blockers other than the wellknown ABP and Ghostery. Using Firefox with these two installed (AdBlock Plus and Ghostery). I don't know... maybe this is an overkill ? Maybe I should uninstall these add-ons and replace them with uBlock Origin ? @imdb Many thanks! I have to be honest: I am not really familiar with all the details of these specific add-ons. There are so many different ones but not so many side-by-side comparison and/or 'neutral reviews'. Most advices are usually coming from enthusiastic users. Please don't get me wrong, this is really by no means any disrespect to you, or any other helpful user here. Absolutely not, okay? But I just want to say that without knowledge, one might get puzzled as to what add-on is doing exactly what and how to avoid installing add-ons with many overlapping functionalities. Uptil just now my knowledge more or less ended with ABP Ghostery and NoScript... In my mind those were THE ad- or scriptblockers. They are wellknown and exist for a long time already. My feelings were that all new stuff, well, at best they may stand in the shadow of the above ones. The first two I had installed and replaced by uBlock Origin as this add-on is highly recommended here. Obviously I never heard of uMatrix before. Is this not greatly overlapping uBlock Origin? =
@wiwul it's ok,no offense taken. on the contrary,umatrix complements ublock when used in conjunction. all it takes to understand the way they work is to read github pages by gorhill,the dev of two add-ons.and they're not complicated at all if you have a grasp of (ad)blockers,filters and fw's in general. and ublock has no "useful ads" feature that comes preopted.
I now have uBlock Origin on my desktop. Never even heard of it. Yes, I am out of it. Thanks for the info.
