I never had serious issues with 3rd party AVs in the past , i just don't rely on them on my main system, to me the concept is obsolete.

 

There's something of a leap between false positives and discerning system files as malware, I do recall MBAM did somewhat the same a few years ago.

 

I have seen a few vendors flag their own files or services falsely, used to post screenshots of them as my laugh of the day, but to rip legit system files is a whole other matter, a serious one.

 

Glad my systems were not online at that time frame. 15 minutes of being online till pulled was fast but damage was done.Some are saying it was 3 hours still was not online.

 

I was blocked from Facebook that day by WSA but for some reason nothing happened to my system files as far as i can tell.

 

You mean like Avast (and now AVG) did multiple times? I moved away from Webroot for another reason (I needed a scanner for Outlook) but I had no issues with it in the past. I'd gladly go back again.

Seriously... this was a bug for 15 minutes. FIFTEEN MINUTES. It's not like it took out protection on systems for a day, or a week.

I had two machines that were affected. One was wrecked and had to be restored to a backup image. I believe I managed to head off any real damage to the other. Bugs are not created equal, and it must be admitted that this one ranks as very serious. Yet, the economic cost of it is small potatoes compared with the damage Microsoft wreaks month after month via Windows Update. Webroot did screw up, but they aren't a chronic screwup.

 

I fully understand that, and I empathise with what you had to go through. I was talking about the hyperbolic rhetoric some people in this thread were going on about.

 

So glad it did not hit any of my machines, I got the Facebook block but nothing else thankfully. I think I have now been using WSA for close to 4 years now (Back when it was still somewhat Prevx 4ish) and I must say it's been one of the most stable bug free antivirus products I have used. I have had no issues ever and one screwup it not enough to push me away from using it.

WannaCry Ransomware: Webroot protects you.

Ransomware attacks continue to spread around the world this weekend, after the initial damage inflicted on healthcare organizations in Europe on Friday.

The criminals responsible for exploiting the Eternal Blue flaw haven’t yet been identified, but up to 100 countries have hit with WannaCry ransomware, with Russia, Ukraine and Taiwan among the top targets.

The ransomware first appeared in March, and is using the NSA 0-day Eternal Blue and Double Pulsar exploits first made available earlier this year by a group called the Shadow Brokers. The initial spread of the malware was through email, including fake invoices, job offers and other lures with a .zip file that initiates the WannaCry infection. The worm-like Eternal Blue can exploit a flaw in the Server Message Block (SMB) in Microsoft Windows, which can allow remote code execution. This flaw was patched in Microsoft’s March 2017 update cycle, but many organizations had not run the patch or were using unsupported legacy technology like XP.

Users of any patched Windows OS are protected, regardless of AV.

 

Agree, but it's nice to have a backup if something failed.

Finely a new Beta out to Beta testers v9.0.17.24 one thing you will see in the scan logs Webroot is now using SHA256 as well as the MD5 hashes.

I know that WRSA is a standalone AV but it supone to work well alongside other AV's right?
Any experience of compatibility?

 

Don't you mean incompatibility? No I'm not aware of any but if you or someone has an issue Webroot Support is always willing to make them work together.
