It is enabled by default in CU, if you have got cloud protection and samples sending enabled.

    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/itpro/powershell/windows/defender/set-mppreference

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/wi...ock-at-first-sight-windows-defender-antivirus

To maximize the effectiveness and at the cost of privacy, you can apply this:

    Code:
    reg add "HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows Defender\SpyNet" /v "DisableBlockAtFirstSeen" /t REG_DWORD /d "0" /f
    reg add "HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows Defender\SpyNet" /v "SpynetReporting" /t REG_DWORD /d "2" /f
    reg add "HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows Defender\SpyNet" /v "SubmitSamplesConsent" /t REG_DWORD /d "3" /f

You can download the group editor for versions of Windows other than Home/Pro to configure group policy.

been reading here about "enhanced" WD. does this apply (only apply) to win 10 Creators v1703, or also too Ann v 1607. I have v1607 on acer laptop, relatively strong, but updates are not showing v1703 as update or available. when I go and look it up, I get "conflicting" info, to paraphrase, MS will be me know when Creators is ready for my device, but then if I want to DL it now... This is confusing (to me). I certainly do not want to DL a version that is going to be problematic on the laptop hardware  (sorry if this is OT or wrong thread)

Do you have a link for a working one? Last time I tried when I was still on Home, it didn't do anything.

Well it certainly has finally caught my attention in the improvement arena. As a reasonably strong critic of something that appeared to be going the way of the dinosaur at one time I can honestly say (at least on CU) that I AM now surprisingly but cautiously impressed. They just need to keep focused and continue to work those areas that are prime for improvement, but yeah, the more such issues surface the more they might be able to line things out.

Most solutions blocked more than 96% of the malware. The risk of actually encountering live malware during a month of heavy computer use is probably 1% (0.01) - actually, it's probably even lower, but let's work with that number.

So, no matter what solution you choose there's a risk of getting infected between 0,04% and 0% each month for average Joe. On a yearly basis there's a 0.48% chance of getting infected with any antimalware solution which gets at least 96% in this test.

This means it doesn't matter, statistically speaking, what antimalware product you pick in this test.
