Windscribe VPN and Tor - Can they work together?

Hi

Anyone has connected Windscribe VPN to Tor browser in the following manner?

Windscribe VPN ==> Tor

and

Tor ==> Windscribe VPN

Can they be connected in the first place? If can, kindly post the steps below

FYI, Windscribe VPN supports HTTP and SOCKS proxy. Tor supports SOCKS 4, SOCKS 5, HTTP/HTTPS proxy

If you use the "Windscribe for Your Computer" option, you should be able to do Tor via Windscribe, and Windscribe via Tor, just as with any VPN.

Perhaps Winscribe for Firefox would install in Tor browser. That should give you Windscribe via Tor.

I doubt that you could get Tor via Windscribe using the browser extension.

 

But the two works on different proxy. Can they work?

 

You can tunnel one proxy through another.

 

From what I read from the net CyberGhost can do it because it supports SOCKS 5 proxy which is what Tor is using as well.

Windscribe only supports SOCKS and not SOCKS 5 proxy

I have tried it and it's not getting through. That's why I'm asking whether Windscribe can work with Tor

When you tunnel Tor through a VPN, the VPN isn't serving as a SOCKS proxy. It's a virtual network, with a virtual interface. So it gets used just like any TCP/IP (for tun) or Ethernet (for tap) interface.

 

I've done the Windscribe browser extension over TOR in a router. It worked but I didn't really do much more than a quick check.

 

I'm referring to the Windscribe desktop not using its extension.

So in your extension case you fire up Windscribe first then Tor like this VPN ==> Tor or

you start Tor first then Windscribe like this Tor ==> VPN

I believe for the 2nd case you need to make Tor as a proxy but there's no settings for proxy in Windscribe's extension so yours is the first case, right?

In the 1st case if the VPN is down you still can surf with Tor browser. So how do you know you are connecting your VPN to Tor? Individually they can surf without problem.

In the 2nd proxy case if Tor is down you cannot surf in VPN. So here you can check if the connection is ok.

 

TOR is set up in my router which uses Shibby Tomato Firmware. It has its own subnet and virtual wireless SSID. I connect by simply changing Wifi channels. TOR is running on top of a VPN inside the router so the VPN to TOR connection is already established in the router. Any VPN I connect to through a client computer will be over TOR which would mean the Windscribe client should work. I just test the IP in the browser to confirm connection. If it doesn't connect or gives the TOR exit node IP, it isn't working. If it gives the VPN IP, it is working. You also want to make sure the DNS is connecting through the VPN as well.

I test the TOR over VPN connection with WebRTC leaks. I use a browser with WebRTC enabled and check the leaked IP. It will be the VPN IP if it is working right but a regular DNS leak test will show the TOR exit node IP.

But I'm referring to using the desktop Windscribe and connecting to Tor in both direction and not in the router itself

 

On Cyberghost VPN it works atleast.
