My go-to OS disk image software is Terabyte Image for Linux/Windows. It not only is flexible, compact, but also very robust. No matter what kind of changes I made to my OS disk (change partition size, layout, alignment, BitLocker encrypted etc), a simple whole disk image restore always brings me back to a fully working Windows/Linux OS in its prime state.
Acronis used to be good, but it has been having problems restoring UEFI/Secure boot disk images, with their outdated default "Restore MBR and Track 0" option in UEFI/secure boot systems.
DS is flexible in that you don't need to install it and the portable tiny .exe file can run from witin Windows and PE. It's currently my secondary disk imager after Terabyte.

Is IFW also able to adjust a restore to work on a different or resized partition?

That will require a "Compact" operation before the image can be restored to a smaller-than-original partition.
@Brian K is the expert for IFW/IFL use in scenarios like this.

The newer versions have a "Scale to fit" option available in the RESTORE OPTIONS window... I have used it to scale in both directions when restoring an image to both a LARGER and SMALLER disk. If it's not set prior to the start of the operation, IFW will let you know about the problem, you set the option and go again... pretty easy.

Thank you TRF. I did not realize IFW/IFL has evolved to this level of usability, as I always restore to the same OS disk. Good to know when/if my OS disk dies and I need to go for a new drive with different size.

    Hi Adric

My Win 7 machines are only one partition. The MS is in the primary. My Win 10 has the two partitions. With Macrium and IFW a single image of the drives works both ways. Drive snapshot has trouble with the Win 10 two partitions. But for the single partition DS is great.

    oliverjia,

This works fine but even easier is a recent Option, "Compact Data". This does the compaction automatically.

New DS builds have been released, dated Apr 5, 2017. No change log (of course), but as the file sizes are different than the previous builds and since it has been less than a month since the prior builds, that may indicate actual program changes have been incorporated. ;)

Just so people don't get confused Drive Snapshot isn't a Terabyte product, It's Tom Ehlert Software.

Just 6 days have gone by since the last builds and new DS builds are posted again today (Apr 11, 2017). No change log (of course), but the x64 file size is different than the like build of Apr 5th, so that suggests additional program changes.

    Another monthly release:
    Drivesnapshot 45.0.17594 (x86)
    Drivesnapshot 45.0.17595 (x64)

I wonder sometimes if the developer is actually updating his app since there is never a change log or whether it's just to get users to reregister.

oliverjia just brought up another point in another thread about DS that I had not thought about. The monthly releases by the developer may be just to let users get another 30-day trial without having to purchase a license which would be an honorable move on the developers part if that is the case.

Wouldn't the "honorable" thing be to purchase a license rather than continue to renew a temporary license on a monthly basis?

    Maybe I'm just old fashioned.

The point was that the developer isn't only focusing on making money which is IMO honorable. What users do with those honorable intentions is another story.

I agree that he probably could have closed that loophole many years ago if he wanted to ensure that it wasn't abused.
Though I thought the price was a bit steep at the time I purchased it years ago, I've never regretted having it in my arsenal and it's saved my bacon a time or two.

(Since I haven't upgraded my old Windows platform in years I haven't bothered with the latest versions of the program either, choosing to stick with what I know for certain works with my old machine. It's primarily just used for printing jobs these days.)

The June releases of DS, builds 17625 (x64) and 17626 (x86), were posted today... http://www.drivesnapshot.de/en/down.htm

Both executables are the very same size as the May builds so I doubt there are any functional changes!

    Thank You Wendi!

This DS is the jewel on this end and has for a very long time and still counting without one single failure.

For my part, only Shadow Defender can claim that same milestone.

Thanks for the other one I missed mentioning. It's been around doing a super bang up job for what seems like ages too!

My pleasure. Those three have stood the test of time. And are still run on my old (last legs) Windows machine.
