After the second manual update attempt, I received KB4019472. Appears to me MS is splitting the updates up perhaps to avoid the MSRT update issues of last month. I received the MRST update in the first download that also included Office and Flash updates.

    Same here.
I had thought KB3008923 would no longer be offered after installing today's Rollup KB4019264 that includes the new Cumulative security update for Internet Explorer, but after installing Rollup KB4019264, KB3008923 is still being offered.
Hmm... I wonder how long it is gonna take Microsoft to fix this ...
I don't install KB3008923. As the KB3008923 knowledge base page clearly states, "The update that this article describes has been replaced by a newer update." Installing KB3008923 is useless, as today's new Cumulative security update for Internet Explorer is the current version.

Yes, that's the same article that I mentioned earlier:
In that article, Woody Leonhard writes:
"General consensus is that you should uncheck KB 3008923 if you see it and ignore the ancient patch until Microsoft gets its act together."

The only issue I had was that KB4019472 would stop at 10% from windows update. I just did a manual update instead and all is OK for now.

Strangely enough, I restored my Win 7 image again this afternoon, and checked for updates, but this time, 3008923 had disappeared, and was replaced by 3003057, apparently another Dec 2014 IE update. I went ahead and installed all the current updates, but then I hid this odd IE update. 2 days ago, I got 3008923. Weird.... :)

    Thanks, Kerodo, same here.

Now I am no longer sure if yesterday, after installing Rollup KB4019264 for Windows 7 x64, KB3008923 was still being offered, or if I was mistaken and KB3008923 was already replaced by KB3003057.

Anyway, at this time, today, KB3008923 is no longer offered, but it is replaced by KB3003057, Cumulative security update for Internet Explorer: November 11, 2014.

The system on which first KB3008923 was offered, and (after installing Rollup KB4019264) now KB3003057 is offered, that is my Windows 7 Professional x64 system that was installed March 29, 2016, on which KB3008923 and KB3003057 were never installed, as in March 2016 those were already superseded by a more recent Cumulative security update for Internet Explorer, the March 8, 2016 update KB3139929.

Well, this morning when I just booted up, KB3003057 is still hidden, but now another new one just showed up as important, KB2987107 dated October 2014. This is pretty crazy... I wonder if I will now get each previous IE Cum Update going back who knows how far each day?

Edit: Ok, interesting thing here. For fun, I restored the hidden 3003057 update, and WU then checked for updates again, when it was done, that new October KB2987107 was gone, and now just the Nov 3003057 is there. So it would seem that it's best to just let it sit there, and not hide it, because if you hide it, another new one from the previous month will show up at next update check.

I can't help but wonder if installing it will put an end to the issue?

Edit 2: Ok, I just answered my own question above by installing KB3003057. After installing it, the next update check once again showed KB2987107 (Oct 2014) as new. I suspect that if you keep installing them, it will keep coming up with the previous one in the chain as new each time. This is pretty messed up. Looks like the best idea is to just let the first one sit there and ignore it... or turn updates off till then fix this.

Yes, that seems to be the case, also according to the folks at AskWoody Forums.
I wonder too, but as there were issues with at least one (KB3008923) of the winter 2014 Cumulative security updates for Internet Explorer, that were fixed with later updates, I am not much inclined to install those old superseded updates.
I'll rather wait till Microsoft gets its act together.

Well, they got me this time, notifications / action center is screwed up, as well as the taskbar clock.
Clicking on either does nothing, it's not going to kill me not to have them till they patch this, but
having notifications (6 in total) that are a mystery is not fun for me.
    Stupid MS :(

Not sure how this happened, but after yesterday's MS updates, the first time I used IE11, and opened a new tab, without changing any settings, I got this. Thanks a lot MS

    See:

"Updated Internet Explorer 11's New Tab Page with an integrated newsfeed."

    You can select "Switch Back",
or you can restore Internet Explorer's new tab page settings in Internet Options, as explained by Martin Brinkmann in the article "Restore Internet Explorer's old New Tab Page".

    Great!
It's a stupid new feature, but at least it is easy to disable.

And after KB3008923 (December 9, 2014), and then KB3003057 (November 11, 2014), now it is KB2987107 (October 14, 2014) that is being offered.
Is Microsoft retiring updates untill they work their way to the first Windows 7 2009 updates?
This may take a while. :argh:

This is interesting... today, I restored another Win 7 image which is fully updated, even with optional and recommended updates. WU ran, found the new stuff this month, and it also came up with the Oct 2014 IE Cum update. For fun, I let it install everything, even the IE update. After that, I checked updates again, and nothing more showed up. So maybe it ends with the Oct 2014 update. We can only hope... :)
