I tried with 7-Zip and that worked. He must be using an offbeat zip program. The built in Windows unzipper work on most zipped files but not this one and is the first time I have seen that error on my PC.

It was packed with the compression-format LZMA and 0-byte files are stored in it.
    Version to extract: "6.3 / LZMA+Store"
And in your case the builtin-zipper can't handle it and a 3rd-party-tool is needed to extract it.

Can someone tell me how to stop all the bothersome popouts with this firewall?

Wondered why I was not getting insider builds lately. Simplewall sets windows update = 0 in the ini file.
Update could not even connect to server. I set Windows update =1 and then I could connect but all it would say is up to date.
Then looking at the insider tab it does show the telemetry was changed. Guess I will have to Wait and see if that goes away and if it doesn't. I will regret ever installing this.

You shouldn't be blocking telemetry if you're on insider builds as it's against the conditions of being allowed to use an insider build.

AS I said. I wasn't blocking it. simple wall is what made the changes. First it installs by default to disable windows update, then makes other changes I am not aware of other then disabling windows firewall. Because of this I might have to buck up and an older image.

Sorry I misunderstood. I thought you'd used Simplewall to block telemetry. It has an option to do that in the gui or by editing the XML - can't remember which as I haven't used it for a few weeks.

Ah ha It wasn't all Simple Walls fault. I had installed O&O ShutUp10 the other day and clicked recommended settings but had forgot. Since clicked revert back to default and all is well. Just another case of old timers disease.

    Thanks.

Want to try it but after downloading the file it has no digital signatures. Where to find the installer checksums?

    Good question
    I can't find any.
Yeah, none of the programs from the same developer is digitally signed:

Well, so far so good. I made it portable and under my Win7 machine and shadowed sessions simplewall is behaving just fine. :thumb:

Btw I'm using the filters which disabled Windows Firewall. Looking good so far and very light.

Does it come with predefined rules for essential Windows processes (for example, DHCP client, DNS client, Windows Updates) ?
Do you get many popups for outgoing connection attempts?
    Thanks :)

At first sight, no. What I did is to install filters (built-in feature) then it ask for your permission to disable Windows Firewall, I said yes.
Now any program trying to access the Internet will be listed in the gui and create pop ups. After you allow a program it should stop poping up.

Mhmm, strange... if you have a look at the file "rule_system.xml", it seems there are several predefined rules (I think they apply when you install the filters)

Speaking of a firewall, if an application doesn't install, disable it temporarily. That usually fixes any error connection issues that may pop up.

A new installer and checksums can now be found on Github.

    @mood Thank you.

The installer is so small that md5 is very insecure. Wonder why the author doesn't use SHA-256 instead.
