It's a pity Microsoft only offer a maximum of 50GB of paid storage for OneDrive without having to also bundle an Office 365 plan.
I've just started using MEGAsync. My IDrive account was due to auto renew today, and I opted to cancel it, to switch to something free. I will still keep IDrive installed, as I get 5GB of storage for free. At the moment, I don't need a lot of cloud storage, as I do regular backups to an external drive.
Dropbox for file syncing. For actual backup I used to use Crashplan, but then started using iDrive because they seemed to be the only one that allowed multiple PC backups to one account at a more reasonable price. But I am suspicious of them after reading about some questionable billing practices. Scored a good lifetime 500GB deal on Zoolz Home (only using about 50GB) so using that as well now and will probably let iDrive lapse. Backup and recovery is slow as it essentially uses Amazon Glacier as the back end, but it does not concern me as the cloud backup is essentially the last resort after external USB drive backups.
I use a combination of 3. SpiderOak, Dropbox, and my most used Box. I have 50Gb of space in Box just from referrals. SpiderOak for confidential stuff as their EULA is more strict than the other 2.
A half terabyte would be good at a reasonable price. I think online storage will become more competitive in coming years. Continuous reliability will be the key. They will have to be big players for me to trust them for a long period of time.
I'm using pCloud and Zool. Few weeks ago i could puchase lifetime licences (promotion) for both clouds (500 GB and 1TB). pCloud is offering a nice feature: you can also acces your cloud via the drive letter 'P' in your file manger . After you have finished installing the pCloud client you are able to use your cloud like a net drive. cu and greets from Germany!
You can get a 2TB lifetime subcription to Zoolz at the moment for 99% off. It's $49.99 instead of $7,200. The offer ends in four days. I currently use Zoolz as a one year giveaway, and my license expires in a few weeks. I have limited funds at the moment, so when my license expires I might look for a free alternative. I also use Mega, which gives you 50GB of storage for free, but I want a second cloud backup option as well. I just had a look at the pCloud website, and see that you get 20GB of storage for free. So it looks like I will switch to that.

With the giveaway I only have what they call Cold Storage, and there is at least a wait of a few hours before you can restore any data. The lifetime deal has 1TB of instant storage and 1TB of archival/cold storage. I wasn't too happy when I needed to restore a file one day, and had to wait, but this wouldn't be any issue with this offer, as you get instant storage too. At the moment, I have very little data stored with Zoolz, and have not tested the download speeds. I have a very slow upload speed (under 1 Mbps) which means that uploading anything other than small files, would take a long time.
Thanks, I guess it is not really a deal breaker then. I want to backup about 500GB, even teamviewer has managed to do a file transfer of that size within 3 days.
I saw this offer on and off over the past few months I always wondered about their business model. Offering something at 99% off does not make sense to me, either nobody is ever paying the full price and this is basically a fictitious base line or they try to get some money while they can.
I just visited the discount link and the "ending in four days" discount is still available. On one hand it is of course highly misleading, but on the other hand many software publishers do it. Usually when I get an email offering a limited time discount on software, the discount is still offered when I click on the link months later. I presume that majority of users aren't aware of the discount and pay full price.
I understand a discount of 50% for a limited period to drum up business and assuming this is not offered constantly, I have no problem with that. But a discount of 99% makes not much sense to me. Also you are not just giving away a product with a limited cost but an ongoing service. Not sure how much you can expect in ongoing service and quality once the money has been collected.
FWIW I signed up for a cheap lifetime Zoolz Home offer of 500GB Cold Storage and 500GB Instant Storage and have had no issues (yet). The 'large discount' offer seems to be one of their marketing ploys, but Genie9 have been around for a long time. One thing that has impressed me though is that Zoolz support has been very quick to respond on every occasion I have contacted them.
I'm having major dramas with IDrive. I canclled my account a few months ago. My 12 months subscrpition had ended and I because I am on an extremely limited budget, I thought I might switch to a free service. Recently, I came across a special IDdrive has currently, where they are offering 1TB of storage at 90% off. It's just $6.95 for the first year. It seemed to be too good a deal to miss, although it is one of those fake "today only" sales, which don't expire when claimed. I tried to sign up for IDrive again, and was informed I would have to send a request to get my account reactivated, which I did 13 days ago. I received a reply asking me to confirm if I really wanted to reactive my account, as my old data has been deleted. I confirmed that I wanted to go ahead, but since then, I've received no further emails from IDrive. Four days later I sent another email confirming I wanted my account reactivated. I've even opened two new requests to get my account reopened, but for some reason, they simply won't reply to me and my account reamains unactivated. I just looked at the free plan IDrive offers, and you 5GB of storage. In hindsight, I should have not initially cancelled my account and just downgraded to the free plan. The upload speed for my ADSL2 internet I have is so slow, that it's not viable to use it for backing up large amounts of data anyway. Anyway, it's really frustrating that they won't communicate with me. I've had the same experience with several antiviruses companies, who will not reply to emails and online enquiries.
ROFL Same here only the so called cloud (remote storage) would fit in your pocket. Miniaturization is the new wave of tomorrow today!
Although some providers say they respect your privacy, encrypt the files before sending them to the cloud etc, I think it's much wiser to encrypt with some application like Cryptomator or Viivo before sending it to the cloud. I use Viivo because I think Cryptomator (despite being open-source and encrypt the names of folders and files) still needs some essential options for me. With Viivo, I simply forget that everything is being encrypted, because it simply works very well.
