Hehehe, I am the same way ;). You know what would be really cool? Smart mode on mobile devices! Since only one app is running at a time (the others are not running or suspended), the toggling of the lock would be even more defined, absolute and seamless than VS on the Desktop. When you are running a web app, the device is locked... otherwise the device is unlocked. Thank you!

Very cool, thank you guys for bringing that to my attention! Smart OFF mode in 3.59 should function just like it does when VS is on AutoPilot... there is simply no reason to not at least scan the files that are not in the user space.

Yeah, I really think it applies to all PDF readers. For example, and vulnerability in Internet Explorer is not going to work on Chrome or Firefox, right?

Thank you for the suggestion! In a couple of weeks, we will have figured whether we will keep the pdf readers in the web app list or not, and once we do, we will make changes to the web apps. When this happens, I will post on wilders and ask for suggestions to add to the web apps, and Vivaldi would be a great one to add.

Slimjet would be another great one to add, thank you!

    Question:
I have Norton Family (it is a free, standalone app) , and when I start up Chrome, it connects to its Chrome extension by running a bat file. So far, so good. Problem is, it forgets to shut down cmd.exe afterwards, with the result that cmd.exe is almost always open on my system.
Does that mess up VS protection of cmd.exe?

    Thanks to you.
Did a clean 3.59 beta install, all seems to be working as it should.

    Norton didn't like 3.59.

    VS 3.59.PNG

I've beat it into submission. ;)

Hi Dan, do I don't have to enable custom folders anymore with version 3.59?

    3.59 installed fine.
Could I request the initial pop-up appears on top when installing? It appears behind my file explorer and it makes me wonder what happened. It catches me out every-time.:)
Could you please explain the difference between smart and auto with regards to warnings? In auto, if a user doesn't allow the file to run does VS auto allow after some checking with a white-listing system? That is, can you completely ignore balloon warnings when in auto?
I have turned off WD so I figured I should get to understand VS better.

Installed 3.59 over 3.58, did a basic check of everything and is working well, like always.

In AutoPilot-mode VS will automatically allow and whitelist any file which is determined to be clean.
If a file has 1 or more positive detections, it will be blocked but you can decide to allow it.
You will not be bombarded with user prompts in this mode.

In Smart-Mode files are not automatically whitelisted and you will get more prompts.

I am not 100% sure about this, but I believe that if a new attack were to occur, it would spawn a new cmd.exe, and not attach to an existing instance of cmd.exe. Besides, with VS, it should be blocked either way, since it is a totally new command line. Thank you!

No, not anymore ;). And actually, the only people who needed to do anything with Custom Folders were people who moved their web browser download folder (or some other user folder) to somewhere outside of the user space... but it will work either way now. Thank you!

It looks like mood answered most of this... thank you mood!

I am not sure what is not appearing on top... I try to make all of the necessary alerts stay on top, without being too bossy ;).

Can you please send me a screen shot the next time this happens so I know exactly what you mean? Thank you!

And thank you everyone else as well!

Thanks once again for the explanations. VS definitely has some awesome features under the hood.

3.59 over 3.58 seems aok... BUT this time the install told me I had to reboot for install to be complete. Maybe I always get the reboot prompt when installing VS, but gee my immediate recollection is that normally I do NOT. Or maybe I just forget?

Thanks for that clarification Dan, I saw that post but you beat me to it :p lol
PS: 3.59 for me is very good and smooth as compared to 3.58 don't know if that
is by design or blind luck, but my cpu and memory usage where VS is concerned has
    dropped noticeably. Very nice :thumb:

Just wanted to mention that there are certain installers with a valid digital sig, but VS thinks they don't have.
An example of this is Winpatrol

That'd be me  Having seen too many peeps lose their data by forgetting to back up %users% on most Windows versions, I made it an iron-clad marine-grade stainless steel rule that never again will I ever have my precious stored by Microsoft's version of a hellish world. Think "Format C: and reinstall". So I have C:, D:, E: (all 5GB of it!) F: and G:. So I run Custom Folders with ON and OFF set exactly the same. It has occurred to me that maybe I'm over-killing somewhere, especially as I'm now using AutoPilot as default until we get multi-user back again. The object of the excercise is to ensure as far as possible that nothing should execute from outside C:, and nothing should execute from inside %users/temp%.

This rule actually forced me to abandon a really nice text editor because the author hard-coded the installer to copy itself to %local/temp% and extract from there. It doesn't matter how good an app is, if it's insecure it don't get a home.
