Freedom! I've compiled this detailed guide on optimal privacy settings for Windows 10 focused on productivity, efficiency and convenience, including tweaks and changes through the settings menu, services, Edge browser, Store and apps, windows updates, telemetry, advertising, some use of third-party tools like Ultimate Windows Tweaker, Winaero Tweaker, and W10Privacy, other configurations, and more. Enjoy.

I think O&O's Shutup 10 can disable Cortana...

Found a way to "neuter" it. If you kill it off, then the "search Windows" desktop toolbar option no longer works.

Was searching for a way to "kill off" Winstore.App.exe running that has recently appeared although I haven't upgraded to CU yet. Disable the SuperFetch service as noted at the bottom of this web posting: https://www.tenforums.com/software-apps/81745-winstore-app-exe-process-list.html. Not only did it kill off Winstore.App.exe, but I no longer see SearchUI.exe(Cortona) connections to Bing.

your guide assumes that people use a live account. and for UWT it is still recommended to use an image before - or minimum system restore. UWT do not offer close the same as shutup or win10privacy.

Another reason my Windows 10 is a lonely HD sitting on a shelf.

That piece of nonsense/annoyance grabs FOCUS way too often on mine like a bad malware ad.

    I use O&O ShutUp 10, W10Privacy and Win 10 Toggle Tweaker v4.

Toggle Tweaker will completely disable Cortana and yes you lose search function but I don't mind. I use Everything search anyhow. Toggle Tweaker has a setting that will turn your Win 10 into LTSB or you can choose what to keep and not what to keep. I get rid of everything except the Mail app. With all those tweaks I'm left with a slimmed down and quiet Windows 10, basically an improved Windows 7 OS.

    Thanks for that tip.

I'm off to D/L and install it right now. I had all but give up on Windows 10 on a HD only for playing movies.

I like to dream about having to opt in to lack of privacy settings. Instead of this everywhere. Maybe that's why I sleep so much. **** *** M$!

Toggle Tweaker couldn't work because it needed network access to download even more files?? ARGGGG!!!

My only Windows 10 platform WILL NEVER HAVE NET CONNECTION PERIOD!

So I took a page from an article and went through Group Policy Editor to DISABLE CORTUNA LUNA BUMA. (lousy junk)

Haha. Toggle Tweaker will download .NET Framework 3.5 and a couple of uninstallers for certain apps but it's all legit. O&O will disable telemetry and W10Privacy can do it via Windows Firewall rules and HOSTS. You should just let Toggle Tweaker do its thing, you'll be glad you did. It's a great and powerful little portable program :)

EDIT: Only problem with disabling Cortana via Group Policy is you'll still see it running in Task Manager chewing RAM and CPU cycles.

With Toggle Tweaker you can still use the native Win 10 start menu. Just breaks search.

Hah ha, Toggle Tweaker rip some other crap out of the way but I took care of Cortuna anyway.

I despise Windows 10 with a passion. What a disaster. Yeah I admire the snappiness and sharp looks of icons etc. (eye-candy?) and it does show performance improvements to a degree but my god man they stuffed it with all sorts of garbage that takes tons of time to remove a lot of them because they're numerous.

You have to go on a duck hunt to find them all out, geez

At least the Video Films run and look sharper (I guess)

Throw in the way they handled the rollout forcement etc. and this user is proud as peaches to just chug along smoothly with Windows 8.1.

Why did Microsoft cram all that additional nonsense in with the improvements?

Oh yeah, one other curve ball from that dastardly system. I love being such a harsh critic of M$ because they earn it :cautious:

I stated in one of the above post my Win 10 is been collecting dust in the closet. Well I also forgot my password (maybe) or else when it performed CHKDSK on bootup something fouled up and it wouldn't let the Local Account I would normally use access the Windows.

If that happens just log on into the Administrator Account (if you remember that PW) and navigate to Computer Management than Local User and Groups and right there you can reset the password on the other (forgotten PW) account and IT WILL WORK.

You should see all the "long road" ways that YouTubers go through with command prompt to accomplish that. Noobies have no chance to take the simple route. LoL

Sometimes we just expect too much from those master minds of the Windows Operating System and their efforts to design the thing to be so reliable. :argh:

I have similar plan - to move to Windows 8.1 - when Windows 7 support ends in 2020. I will get additional 3 years of support, hoping that by 2023 they will come to their senses :)

I don't understand why so many complications with Cortana; it's a simple thing.

i did - but all after this image is a ms account:
    http://www.dedoimedo.com/images/computers-years/2017-1/windows-10-create-new-account.png
    see also
    http://www.dedoimedo.com/images/computers-years/2017-1/windows-10-ms-advertising-details.png

so i have to assume all settings are done with logged in account.

dotNET 3.5 is NO GO - old crap on a modern system, not it decades on my computer. either authors go with the current release wich is 4.5.2 or higher or i consider such products as dead. even my older win7 dont own this old sh**

concerning ads first i use my hosts file, but that's a bit off of the guide.

No, they are done in a LOCAL account. I stated that in the opening sequence of the article.

This is rather off topic in this thread, my apologies for that, but anyhow:
On Windows 7 systems, you find Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5.1 in "Turn Windows features on or off", not in "Uninstall or change a program".
