Windows 10 Creators Update, non-Insiders opportunity.

Same here. I use DNS.WATCH protocol instead of my provider DNS when online. Safe practices too obviously.
As you said, for the time been WD must do.

I just pinged their servers and found it would be quite slow for me on the East Coast. Well over 300 ms at its fastest.

OpenDNS (while it does keep logs) pings at or less than 35 ms. My ISPs DNS servers ping at 25 ms.

 

Yeah, good that you did your homework there, ODNS seems the best option other than using your ISP's.
You can Try Adguard's I have used them with AirVPN and they are pretty fast, but your in Aussie Land
so you may not get the same speed.

 

Adguard was also well over 300 ms here or I would probably be using them.

 

I have already installed the update on several computers. I have few devices home, I also have different ones wanting the big update done.

I've only experienced two machines that failed to update, out of many I've done already. Desktop-PCs, Laptops, Tablets. My primary desktop-PC which had Comodo PF 8.x installed, and caused the installation to fail on the last phase at 99%. A person's laptop failed because of a WiFi driver issue

Comodo PF caused 0x8007042B - 0x4000D error code
WiFi driver issue caused 0xC1900101 - 0x20004 error code.


It's no surprise to read people had failed attempts to update to Windows 10 Creators. However once you figure out the reason, the upgrade goes smoothly. After update, there's small handful of settings that are reset, however since It's only requiring minute to toggle these settings, I suppose I can't complain.

After your PC loads up for the first time with Windows 10 Creators, you'll notice a bit of disk activity, and this is normal. It's installing and configuring different drivers and software. Then stuff be grabbed from Windows Updates and Store.

Like Roger_m already stated, the latest is running very snappy. I was already impressed with Windows 10 AU, and I didn't think Creators update would improve on-top of that even. However I am pleasantly surprised to see that Windows 10 Creators Update brings even better performance. My primary desktop-PC is little over 6 years old, so I should be impressed!

Regarding doing clean-installs of Windows 10 big updates. Not everyone is that familiar with a PC to go down that path. Update is the preferred method for obvious reasons. You typically be with the latest, not have to worry about loosing anything, or needing to grab it all back or locate then re-install everything. Then customize all the various Windows settings and third-party software one uses. I imagine it could be months before It's all back to rights with many. Two things to consider then, time required, and abilities to perform clean-installs then get things all back to rights.

Windows 10 big updates fails to install, some may not have no other options. Then clean-installs likely be the most convenient, fastest method to have the latest and brightest on your PC.

My recommendations, try the big update first. If you run into problems installing, seek aid. Last resort, perform clean-install. Pray you've backed up everything. Pray you've written down all your accounts information like usernames and passwords. Pray you can locate the various Windows settings that you've toggled with once-upon-a-time.

A minor annoyance since upgrading to CU on both my laptops:

The Windows Defender Security Center shows a warning yellow triangle due to Device performance and health report flagging diver issues for WD Device Management devices > WD SES Device and all Portable Devices > My Passport Western Digital external USB drives.

Device Manager shows 'Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. (Code 39).' (For SES also: 'The driver may be corrupted or missing'). Object name not found.

If I try to update the driver > Search automatically ..., it shows the following for WD SES Device and WPD FileSystem Volume Drivers as 'The best drivers for your device are already installed'.

Everything is working fine, just the warning yellow triangle is annoying. Anybody else experience this? Any fix?

I don't use or want to use, any WD Apps supplied with the My Passport drives. As far as I know I didn't have those warnings in Device Manager before upgrading to CU.

 

USB Port Fixer may help.

I haven't tried it myself yet.

 

While it is for a different reason, I'm also seeing an annoying yellow triangle. Two laptops running on AC are advised to set a sleep period while on battery and one is advised to turn down screen brightness, which is impossible with its graphics card and has been since I first installed Win10.... Ignored!

 

I also have the sleep period warning and also choose to ignore that.

Wish there was an option to selectively override a warning.

Yes, this is annoying me too. Also, the date formats in the WD Security Centre do not match my localisation (4/13/2017 instead of 13/4/2017).

 

I completely agree. I'm more likely to ignore any sort of warning now because of this.

I have WD Passport drive. I went and hooked it up and I haven't installed no WD apps.

' WD SES Device ' is working correctly and no warning in Device Manager.

Have you unplugged the drive, then remove the driver from Device Manager and re-boot the PC? Then plug the drive back in. Make a difference?

Talking about annoyances... I use local Windows account. I also have shared experiences disabled, however Microsoft continues to alert with "We need to fix your microsoft account before you can use shared experiences."

 

Remove the driver - you mean Uninstall? May try that.

As I say everything is working fine on both machines.

Re WD SES, the WD site says 'The SES driver is not required for your drive to be recognized by your computer.'

 

I forgot all about AdGuard having DNS. I tried it out last night and so far so good. My ping is around 8ms so good stuff.

A problem I have had from the outset with Windows 10 is that the Windows Search service (searchindexer.exe) would freeze my machine about three minutes after booting. I have subsequently always had this service disabled.

I see now that after the upgrade to CU that service is back on automatic start (delayed) and the freeze problem no longer occurs.

 

Can't say i agree with some of the suggestions in this guide (Removing Windows Defender for example) but some are usefull especially those that disable useless Schedule Tasks and some nasty services (CDPUserSvc)

Guys, I need your help, I still don't understand why Windows 10 Pro 64-bit on my computer still did not upgrade, I use check for updates right now, and it did not show that it needed to upgrade. it says up to date, how can it be up to date if there is creators update upgrade?
The only thing that it updated were Microsoft Office 2016 and Windows Defender, and than after I again click check for updates, it says the device is up to date, it doesn't make any sense, how can it be up to date if there is creators update that need to be both downloaded and installed?
