Anyone having ESET have had any issue with the upgrade to Win 10 CU? I have not had a single hitch getting the AU and the regular monthly patches through but better be sure before I go ahead.

I'm attempting an update on one machine with MB 3.0.6 installed now and will post my results.

Boy, that was a painfully slow process! Sure, it is a low end machine but I bet I could have done a clean install faster, although all my programs are still installed.

MB 3.0.6 did not affect the upgrade however it did not start on first boot. Another reboot and so far everything looks to be running OK.

They've made Control Panel harder to find so I've pinned that to Start.

A clean install is always going to be faster. But, of course you then you need to renistall your software again, which is why I prefer to never do a clean install other than on my test computers. This upgrade was a lot faster on my main laptop than is was to upgrade to the Anniverary Update. I have hundreds of programs installed, and I thought this slow down the upgrade a lot, but despite this, the upgrade was fairly quick.

The other laptop I upgraded, which doesn't have a SSD, but has very little software installed took a lot longer to upgrade.

I see I've had to disable the microphone on my laptop and uninstall a few apps again.

The audio driver was probably updated. Any included Windows Apps which have been uninstalled get installed again.

There was only OneDrive and two X-Box related ones to remove... so far.

Okay, maybe they don't all come back. I have all the standard Microsoft apps because it's not long since I ran Tweaking.com's Registry Repair, and one of the default repairs causes missing Windows apps to be reinstalled. Prior to that I had no Windows or third party apps installed.

    Is it worth it?

And what do you have to install to make the Windows service useful?

I've been running it since the first links for the ISOs were posted . 6 machines, no issues. I know that won't be the case for everyone, but I find it is running great. I am running Windows Defender until the AV vendors release official updates for it. There are driver issues with some of them that will limit functionality.

It seems that with each major upgrade to the Windows 10 platform, the overall experience becomes more efficient with regard to hardware utilization and therefore a smoother experience and better performance. That is great to see lower performance machines running comfortably these days. This is entirely backwards compared to Windows of previous years where each major platform upgrade would require hefty hardware requirements and slower performance.

This is the real reason PC sales are down. I haven't upgraded in 6 years. Don't need to. I used to upgrade every 6 months between Windows 95 and XP. The speed and capacity of hardware today is one or two thousand times what it was in the days of Windows 95. It gets hard to justify making people buy new machines without admitting you are writing really inefficient code.

Yes, mostly. I installed it for other reasons--primarily to reset the registry and eliminate several DCOM issues that were impeding shutdown. Done deal! No interest in performance boosts or new features, though the Security Center looks nice.

One thing detracting from it is that Edge tab in IE11. I'll look at K-Meleon. But no Edge, no thanks. By the way, got back over 10 gb immediately by getting rid of Windows.old. That's a lot for a little bitty SSD.

Are you saying IE11 is replaced entirely by Edge in CU ver.?

God forbid. No, there is tab for Edge in the IE browser, see it in the screenshot? If you don't watch your clicks, you launch Edge. Not good. I want to lodge a complaint somewhere to have this removed.

Check your add-ons in IE11. Bet that is how MS is doing it. Hopefully it can be removed.

Good update to CU using MCT today. Only issues I see is that Windows Defender is on again with no easy way to shut if off and there are two persistent connections to MS visible in TCPView, one to search.msn.com and one to wns.windows.com. (search goes away after awhile). These two connections are using a single svchost connection in Windows Firewall using WFC, which if disabled cuts the internet connection. Audio drivers (Realtek) needed to be reinstalled.

Those existed on all prior vers. of Win 10 as far as I am aware of.

You can block the connections to msnbot-65-52-108-xxx.search.msn.com by using this IP range, 65.52.108.0 - 65.52.108.255, in an incoming firewall rule for explorer.exe. Doing so will prevent any Windows apps from auto updating among other things.

I notice IE 11 has had my privacy settings changed again with Creators Update. I wish MS would leave my settings alone.

... System Restore gets disabled too. I wonder what other surprises I might find?
