That's not their goal. Why WOULD it be their goal? Their goal is to get corporate decision makers to use their products at home, so it influences their decision to purchase enterprise licenses. Nobody is looking to corner the Free AV market for no good eason other than the kindness of their own hearts. It's either to move you towards their pay products, harvest your info to sell to third parties, or get you to buy their business products. Simple as that.

Well there are free AVs that exist just to feed with malware the paid and business products

I tried Sophos, but removed it as it is such a large download, but most importantly, it slowed my computer significantly

Hmm I wonder if there's any difference between Sophos free and Clearsight? Can anyone from Sophos tell if there are any? Is the Sophos sdk limited in some way?

Both programs are completely different. I am not sure if detection varies between the two.

I agree with you. Thats business.
But their pay products are corporate. Home users are unlikely to give them that benefit. Either way, its their management decision.

Nevis, agreed. I'm assuming they want the enterprise managers, IT people, general decision makers to try it out and influence their decision. OR, alternatively, use it as a bit of an extra carrot. "Maybe we should go with Sophos. We can use it at work, and it's free for home use too!" Who knows, really?

Easy, they use you as a honey pot of malware.

Working on it! Still in internal beta as more changes are being made so we will miss Easter. Consider this one of the eggs that everyone looks over and misses in the initial hunt, then like a week later you find it. Chocolate still tastes great, and you feel like Indiana Jones. ;)

Team is excited to take it out wider. I've been testing out myself, and although I'm not an overly technical person, the new changes give more power to the user which I think most people here will be excited about. Can't wait to share. Stay tuned!

Thanks @Mops21! You beat me to the punch.

Yes, our Sophos Home Premium Beta is launched! You can go and give it a spin. Just a few things to keep in mind:

    1. It's still in beta so improvements will still need to be made. Please let us know how you feel in the in-product survey in addition to what you say here on Wilders.
    2. You'll need to have a Windows endpoint running Sophos Home to get the beta. The Mac features are not available yet.
    3. If you already have an account, just login into your account. No need to create a new one. If you have a Windows computer using Sophos Home, you will receive a beta message that allows you to opt in.

Some new features to look out for:
    • Exploit Prevention (Sophos Intercept X tech)
    • Ransomware Protection
    • Much faster scan and malware removal
    • Webcam protection
    • Keyboard protection (encrypted keystrokes)
    • Even more browser protection
I think you'll like the new features. :thumb:

You'll notice that the scan and clean functionality is very similar to HitmanPro (we incorporated that tech). When we find something, just like in HitmanPro, you can choose to quarantine, delete, or ignore. That said, quarantine isn't built into the product as of right now, so I would recommend choosing ignore if you know it's not malicious. We raised this with the engineers.

imo the UI of Hitman Pro doesn't match/fit this whole new UI.

Are you guys going to implement new HMPA (beta) features to Sophos Home or going to have separate updates for each product?

I'm not positive how the update process with work with Sophos Home and HMPA; if they will be updated simultaneously or on their own schedule. That said, I would say it's safe to assume that improvements to HMPA would also happen to Sophos Home. Both products are under the Sophos roof and we want to utilize good tech that we have.

So the free version of Sophos home will disappear?
Any invincea tech in this new version?
Why Sophos doesn't participate in 2017 in avcomparatives?

Yes, I use HitmanPro so I am aware of scan and clean. But of greater concern is the real-time scan and detection. How will Home respond to any real-time detections that occur during day to day operation?

My Emisoft Antimalware was about to expire (after 6 years of using it), so I installed Sophos 12 hours ago. So far, so good... My system isn't freezing as before.
During real time scanning, if Sophos detects a malware, It opens an alert window stating that the thread has been "detected and blocked". If you click on that warning windows, it opens the "Threads" tab in Sophos main interface. From there we have the option to Clean or Ignore the thread.

So it is now just blocking the threat, rather than automatically deleting it? So you can recover the file in case of a false detection by selecting ignore?
