Now we're sure; you need to do an install and upgrade to v7 thereafter. It worked for me but what a colossal waste - not sure why they couldn't just email me the v7 keys and cancel the v6 keys I bought.

Yeah, silly. I'm pretty sure no one wants to uninstall and then reinstall the program, just to upgrade an unused v6 key.

Do I have to install the v6 program to get the 'full upgrade experience?' Will a v7 install, with the key unregistered, upgrade the v6 key when I put it in? Probably will just give me an error... I guess there's only one way to find out.

I'm not sure what you mean, precisely, but I the install program will only download the version for which you have a key. As an example, I had to enter my (unused) v6 key which then installed v6. After v6 was installed, I was then able to immediately upgrade and, in the process (and only at that time), get a v7 key.

I honestly don't understand why Macrium can't simplify the process. I suppose it's a low priority since most users probably don't buy the program within the "free upgrade" window period.

I think we're saying the same thing. I mean specifically, what if I don't have an extra computer lying around to install v6, put in the old key, to then upgrade to v7?

With v7 already installed, that means I have to unregister the v7 key, uninstall v7 completely, then install v6 and put in a new v6 key. Then the server lets me know I'm entitled to a free upgrade, gives me the code, and then upgrades to v7. A real roundabout way to update keys.

I tried just removing my v7 key and entering a spare v6 key to re-register. Nope. I think the above method is the only way currently.

What's the use of Macrium Reflect Monitor Tray? I restarted the computer, and I got that. Does it have to do with the new CBT? :)

Reflect 7 is still terrible with Windows 10 PE for my configuration... (cloning to an external HD using e-SATA)

    Reflect 7, Windows 10 PE:
    Code:
    Read 21.3 Mb/s - Write 428.3 Kb/s
    Reflect 6, Windows 8.1 PE:
    Code:
    Read 664.6 Mb/s - Write 768 Mb/s
Yes, that's Kilobytes instead of Megabytes for Reflect 7 one Windows 10 PE...

I see that the upgrade includes 1 year "Essentials Support". What does that mean? Could I get help solving this issue by purchasing that? (might be worthwhile?)

    XIII,

I haven't looked at Reflect 7 but the Reflect 6 numbers are Megabits/sec and not Megabytes/sec. Very sneaky presentation of numbers.

To fresh install V7, you need to download the PE package or previous PE package i.e downloaded with V6 is the same?

    XIII,

The Reflect 7 numbers are Megabits/s too. I agree your Reflect 7 results are terrible. I did a full restore with Reflect 7 (not RDR) and saw these numbers...

    Read 6.9 Gb/s Write 2.0 Gb/s.

Even so, the restore took six times longer than an IFL restore. The IFL restore was a few seconds faster than a RDR restore. 19 GiB image with both apps. SSD to SSD.

Yes, you are right. That was my mistake; I missed that it was "b" instead of "B".

I still don't understand why I get such low numbers with PE10 (I think Reflect 6 on PE10 was just as bad), after they upgraded to 1607 (I have been having problem since that update).

I have a family member with an identical PC and an identical e-SATA enclosure; only our internal/external drives differ (mine are 640 MB, his are 2 TB) and Reflect 6 on PE10 works flawlessly for him.

What's the experience with Macrium support? Would it be worthwhile to upgrade just to be able to get support on this issue?

PD, after reading this thread for the past 2-days, as well as the Macrium Forum over the same period... unless you need some feature in v7 to save your life, I would relax and wait... you won't lose anything.

I have not upgraded as of yet... :cautious:

My issue finally got resolved. In the words of the developer: "the issue turned out to that I wasn't handling upgrades from v6 keys that were themselves upgrades from a specific v5 edition. It was my code."

Over the past few days I have download MR updates as they appeared. The last one yesterday seemed to have borked my anti-virus and itself. I use a another backup to backup MR...just in case. That fixed the problem, in a manner of speaking. I will stay away from MR for a week or two or three. Ahh, fixing things that ain't broke. Where have I seen this before.

What a mess of this "upgrade" fiasco. Looks like MR could not even handle the most basic whole disk backup/restore properly from within a PE environment with such ridiculously low read/write speed. My test results are similar to Brian's. It's clear to me IFL/IFW will be my favorite disk imaging software, maybe in my whole life. In my 10 years of continuous use of IFL/IFW it has never let me down. With IFL/IFW v3 the speed increased by many folds on multi-core CPUs as compared to v2.
I would imagine that with the new Ryzen CPUs, IFL/IFW would surely fly since v3 would utilize all the CPU cores.

Well, I did upgrade as there was a coupon that expired Feb 28th. At least that is what it said. So far my only issue is that every time I run V7 it asks me to create a Rescue Disk! I did do this but it still says I need to do it. I can not be the only one with this issue. I make a pe10 disk.

They updated to build 2001. Where can I find release notes? (I have reverted back to v6)

Seems one should never get too comfortable with any software. Malwarebytes should have taught me that Now Macrium is testing if I am paying attention. I am, believe me. Will just stay with Version 6 for a while.

i went ahead and paid for the upgrade mainly because of the 50% off plus the coupon code i figure if i wait it may not be around for that price later. for me the way it worked is i got new keys which were for v7 but not active. they did not become active till i installed v7 and entered the new v7 key then entered the old v6 key and then the v6 key was dead and only the v7 key was active.

    zfactor,

Just a hypothetical. Say someone is using ver 7 and changes his mind. Can he revert to using ver 6?
