I have used Sophos for Mac before and did not like the simpleton GUI. Why all Mac AV's think Mac people need a simpleton GUI?? I thought Intego's X6 GUI with a ton of options was one of the best because it had options. The logging in that AV was stellar!!!! it tracked everything, you could solve ANY local networking issues with this AV because it told you everything. Then Intego was taken over by corporate raiders and they dumbed down the GUI to being an "also ran".

I use Avast for Mac now and feel it has better/more Mac signatures then Sophos. That was proven 2 years ago is the "has been" testing site http://securityspread.com/S0urce/LatestDetectionRates.pdf tests. ( I know 2 years ago, but it is Sophos)I feel Sophos has not advanced their sigs aggressiveness of quantity vs Avast's to date. Just a hunch. The author of this site dealt with both Avast and Sophos and found Sophos to be very arrogant and snubby, where Avast wanted to work with him and was "open".
Sort or the "British Arrogance" deal.

I see this too by not having and option on autodelete. Who would ever build an autodelete into and AV? That is like not putting an oil filter in a car engine...it works but...... How lazy can you be, guess what, you need to write some more code. And what year is it 2016/17 Where is Sophos...... just writing a Quarantine AV package.... how 2007 can we get here? I am surprised Sopho is even open to changing it. What?, Sophos listening to it's customers. I find that surprising and refreshing, yet am still thinking too little, too late, and "expecting" too little in the future.

I really do want the best for Sophos, but i see someone at Sophos's upper management always putting the brakes on from making a #1 #2 #3 #4 AV. Why is Sophos NOT #1 #2 #3 #4 with all their money and a Hitman Pro acquisition? Come on guys, you should be able to kick arss, with all your assets.

Hey Sophos CEO, start a BLACK program, be the #1 AV at all costs. Aggressively testing and bring all the new "behind the scene" technology you are ssslllooooowwwwlyy working with IE H Hitman Pro and SandStorm and what other hidden technology you take years to siphon out so and too slowly.

How long will Sophos continue with auto-delete? :( It's getting ridiculous ...

I think Sophos's coders and management are 60 year old guys that don't want to change. Really, auto delete in 2016/17. That shows they could give a crap about their users. Why even bother with Sophos.

Some other known AV is doing a similar thing - "Automatic Quarantine", and the user can't disable it in the settings. But at least the user is able to restore files from the quarantine :ninja:.
"Auto deleting" would be too much for me and there should be at least one option to disable it.

Will we see hitman pro alert or invincea tech in Sophos home?
What is the point of using it since it's so simple?

@fmon thanks for calling me back from the dead. For some reason, I wasn't getting email notifications (like I used to) about replies to the thread.

Sophos Home has updated. There still is no quarantine feature for malware, but PUAs have updated. For example, if Sophos Home detects a PUA, you can choose to keep or clean the application. No auto-delete of PUAs. I'll continue to argue the case for quarantine options for malware detection.

Now the main reason for my absence from Wilders is because we've been focused on a lot new updates for Sophos Home. Get excited because we have some really great stuff coming. I wish I could say more, but we'll have a beta coming soon (target is mid-March after internal testing finishes) that we're planning on sharing with everyone on Wilders. You can play with it all you want and see all the new features. Then feel free to send us as much feedback as you want on everything from quarantine features to the new...well, you'll find out. We plan on using your specific feedback more than ever.

So, stay in suspense a little longer. And I'm now back on the forums, especially this thread. I'll make sure my notifications are back up and running so I can be more responsive. Thanks @fmon @_CyberGhosT_ @guest @zfactor @mood @Blueshoes @Yegor Efremov for the more recent feedback.

An update is currently being engineered. In the meantime, I would highly recommend using HitmanPro as a replacement of the malware removal tool. https://www.hitmanpro.com/en-us/hmp.aspx

I'm afraid that is a major deal breaker right there o_O Wake me up when that has been addressed and I might consider testing the product. But not a minute before ...

Otherwise, Sophos Home sounds like it could be a good product, and is the reason why I am watching this thread :)

Welcome back Alex! :thumb: Now it's really time for the quarantine feature, an easter gift would be nice. :geek:

Maybe someone of wilders experts can assist you to speed it up ...

We're always hiring at Sophos. Would love some Wilders experts to join the team and give it some extra power. Or at minimum, put the new beta through the works when it comes out. In the meantime, we'll get to work on the Easter gift. ;)

It would be interesting to hear the reasoning behind not implementing a quarantine feature.

I know that part of the reason behind not adding a quarantine feature is because the user base. A large portion of the Sophos Home users don't have the same security or tech background like many of the Wilder's users, for example. They don't want or like to deal with quarantines. They want a solution that makes smart decisions for them. We oblige by doing just that, making sure on the engineering side that we can get false positives as close to zero as possible.

Now granted, we can't just please one side of the user group. That's why we have the "allow" or "clean" functionality for PUAs, which are a more common false positive for AVs.

It's a bit of a balancing act. In our previous Home User AV (which was just for Macs at the time), we had a quarantine feature. It's not that we can't do it (we totally can), but we have to also deal with the feedback from a lot of other users who say "don't quarantine things. Just delete them. I don't know if they're bad or not. You make the decision."

Fine, if yo want to keep it balanced, just add an opt-out option for those users who prefer to decide for themselves. I myself will not use anything that auto-deletes stuff from my system.

I don't think that's a reasonable excuse for not adding a quarantine. No one has to deal with quarantines. If an antivirus quarantines files, then you of course you need to manually go to the quarantine to deal with quarantined files. If you don't go to the quarantine, then really it makes zero difference if there is a quarantine or not.

It's a bad excuse, you know it's quite user friendly and smart when your AV deletes good files and you can't restore them.

Sophos has a high FP rate compared with others in av comparatives if I remember well
