Yes, sad indeed. Hopefully in 12 months the dev will have a renewed interest and will continue development.
Reminds me of Mozilla dropping FF for PC Macs. It had to be revived with the TenFourFox port. Someone will have to come up with a Windows Vista port to keep the browser up to date. But its better for Windows Vista users to upgrade to Windows 7 which is supported for future CF versions.
Its being switched to ESR while FF will continue to remain on a rapid release cycle. In part to reduce the maintenance burden. Waterfox and TenFourFox already receive only security update and stability fixes. Hardly the death of CF.
Developer will still push out updates but CF will no longer be based on Mozilla FF's rapid release cycle branch. Updates now come from the FF ESR branch through 2018.
