I have seen this too, ie, exit VS when installing or updating certain but not all apps. I think it may have to do with how /where the installer stores temp files during the install, not sure but sometimes it looks like even in install mode VS can or does block some cmd lines or sys files, and install fails. May depend too on VS settings. Normally when I download a file to install, I scan it for malware various ways, then exit VS, install, and restart VS. Related, I have 2 different vpn apps already installed, but for one of them, I have to disable VS to get it to run and connect despite having run VS in training mode, but once vpn is running and connected, I put VS into smart mode, and no interference with the vpn. While the other vpn works aok with VS in smart mode. Given VS protection and Dan's support, I find this a minor annoyance, and has not bothered me enough to trace it down further. Maybe Dan or someone knows more about this.

I have also had the 'Preparing Windows' just a few times, but can't recollect if it was directly after a MR restore each time, and hadn't even thought about tracking this down to VS. It appears something messes with the user profile. But it generally is not a problem. Windows 10.

    Hi Paul

I noticed you are running MBAM. Is it mbam 3 as there have been some reports of a profile problem with MBAM 3.

Have you checked "Custom Folders" to see if anything is blocked when VS is off?

On another note some installers/ updaters don't work if you change the default path for TMP/ TEMP directories.

    Environment Variables.jpg

On my machine the updater for Zemana Antimalware almost never works even if I exit VS and any other security app that could interfere with the update. The updater used the wrong path for TEMP directory and is not coded to follow the path as set.

The solution is to download a fresh copy of the installer and run it instead of using the updater.

So far I only had the issue on my secondary machine. I do have MBAM there, with only anti-exploit enabled, so it could be that. But I think it also happened before MBAM 3 'upgrade'.
A reboot does sort it out.

Does that mean you already exclude .zip from the parent process feature?

The test at Malwaretips uses a program that is benign. Would VS allow a child process that was actual malware I.e a program blacklisted or deemed risky by VoodooAI?

I restored incremental and not one time have I ever gotten a "Preparing windows" this is without VS. Restored to a full backup (6 hour job) I don't want any snapshot less than 99.999% accuracy.
I know, soon all this will be polished.:)

Then it will do little good to exclude "rar" from the parent process feature. A better choice may be to create an exclusion category for the parent process and allow the user to add WinRAR (and others) to that. In addition it may be better than the free version default not allow the parent process.

Not really an option for the average computer user the free version of Voodooshield is aimed at.

    @Dan,

Sometimes there is popup "connect to internet..........." even if you are connected to internet.
Does VS retries or how many times VS tries to connect to cloud for verdict?

Do you think, would be good, if "retry..........." is available on the popup "connect to internet..............."?

Ive noticed alot of folks on here are using VoodooShield, im kindof a novice at web security and wondering if the free version would be a good addition or overkill on my system since im already using Bitdefender 2017 paid and Malwarebytes. Thanks

I would say it would be (overkill), since you asked.
VS and a good firewall should be plenty, but who knows?

Well I DL and at first BitDefender paused while executing the file however Bitdefender allowed me to add to the exclusion list. Seems like everything running fine in auto-pilot mode. I'll post if I run into any issues.

Thanks Circuit I paid for Bitdefender so im keeping that. The VoodoShield website claims that the program is made to work with AV's so as long as they play nice together why not?

Like Circuit said, everyone is going to give you a different opinion. Me, I really like VS. It's unobtrusive and takes up very little memory. And, it gives me peace of mind. I've added it to my system which runs Webroot Internet Security and Sandboxie and Kerish Doctor. I certainly don't think it's overkill.

Again, you'll probably gets lots of suggestions/opinions. Trust your instincts.

The only reason I stopped using VS, at the moment too many clicks, to many connections (really don't care about results, just privacy. So this blows) .I have enough clicks for a life-time.
    AppGuard, EIS good enough.
