Terry, it's not a Freedom of Speech issue... it's the ability of possibly really mad people with real serious grudges getting the real name (and eventually possibly their address) of someone who may have not been straight up with them. I, for one, would not want to be responsible for anything like that happening. I happen to know Waj's real name, but as Peter said, it's not my place to make that information known.

Waj has offered remuneration to those who feel the product hasn't performed up to expectations/specs. The "aggrieved" should follow Waj's suggestion... real names, I feel, are not necessary to solve this type of problem.

Agreed, the revelation of members personal info whether supposed or fact shouldn't be revealed on forums such as wilders without their express consent, all members have the right of self chosen anonymity and wajus although a developer or owner of Flashback is still a member here.

    Hi Peter

I really cannot believe what you have just written. I have been a respectful reader of your many informative posts over the years, and yet you appear to defend, as does Froggie, the indefensible.

I actually only asked a question, re-posted here "Can I ask you a question? Is Wajamus Peter Vesic?". I did not assert that Wajamus was Peter Vesic. Froggie and you chose to assume that was the case. I had a suspicion and now you have both confirmed it. The reason I asked the question is because I had a series of email conversations with a Peter Vesic well before Isso or AX 64 came along. Clearly I formed an impression as a result of those conversations which I choose not to comment on here.

I cannot believe that in a free society, or indeed law, that we are not able to connect those who produce products or services and in so doing "screw us" with what they have failed to produce. Terms of service, if you are correct, might be an issue here, equally what about those who view Wilders forums and hang on the very words of our resident experts and yet look in bewilderment at the inability to know who has failed them. Is it the developer or Wilders forums with its Terms of Service?

If you look at the angst produced in many of the posts about the failure of the developers, which include you Peter and Froggie as substantive complainers. Believe it or not I was not aware that Wilders Terms of Service prohibited the naming of a developer (if that is what I have done - see second paragraph), it is ludicrous that a a bankrupt developer, and I mean this much more than in the financial understanding of the word. (Morally for example).

Finally, in the UK where I live, it is not possible to conceal the names of those who fail to deliver!

    Terry

    Hi The RollBack Frog

I have responded to Peter before I read your post.

Again I record here my respect to your knowledge and experience and years of service to the Wilders community. I feel very uncomfortable pitting myself against such a respected luminary in the Wilders Community. I simply disagree with you. You appear to be taking on the role of a martyr. I mean no disrespect in that comment but that is how it appears.

Look at your own and Peters recent posts (which come with some vitriol), is there not hypocrisy in your comments when you seek to defend anonymity. You use, for the most part outlandish comments about mad people and grudges. Let me give you an example. In the UK a large retail group (BHS) recently went bust, the reasons are well presented in the press. Greed and arrogance on the part of the owners. Many thousands of people will lose their pensions. The whole of the UK knows the names of the owners and what they have done. No one is prohibited from commenting either in forums or in the press. Yet there are many thousands of people who might have a grudge against the owners.

I really find your comment about mad people and grudges ridiculous . The only issue as I said in my previous post is possibly the Wilders Terms of Service that Peter referred to, which I have astated I was not aware of and do not agree with.

I find it profoundly depressing to read so much criticism of the developers, by you and others and yet you defend something that is indefensible.

    Terry .

The difference with your example is that it is known who the owners of BHS were because, as you said, it was widely reported in the press. Here on Wilders, and on other forums, people choose whether to give their real name (either in part or in full) or a pseudonym. A developer may choose to do either of these. It may be possible to find out who they are if the website of the product gives developer info; some do perhaps by showing a few of the main characters involved, but some don't list much information or none at all. One might be able to find out some details with a bit of digging but I think naming individuals when pseudonyms are used could create more trouble than its worth.

Email addresses have been provided for anyone who feels the need to contact with their concerns.

Terry... I did nothing but offer an opinion. And as we all know, opinions are like ********... everybody has one.

I'm probably one of the few users on this Forum who were around the internet even before Al Gore invented it. That experience has shown me, after many years of observation, that the farther you can keep real life from the net, the better (and safer for that matter). Again, it's just an opinion, nothing more. If ISSO (or even Waj) or anyone else wishes to give you Waj's name, that's for them to decide... I made my call. This is not a court of law and subpoenas do not get issued here in the Forum... people make their own decisions.

AX64 LLC (or whatever they are known as) has offered a path for disgruntled users to obtain refunds, if warranted. That should be more than enough... after all, that's all they're due for a failed product. To my knowledge there are no pensions at play here... just some possible refunds to users who have failing applications.

I would suggest that if you or any other users you know have issues with the product they purchased, they should follow-up with their grievance at <info@ax64.com>. In the recent past this path has not necessarily been the best communication channel with the company, but Waj's statement above says they will be diligent in handling any communication via this channel from now on. If you have these issues, I would give it a shot. At the same time it might be worth asking them what Waj's real name is!

I believe some folks here are mixing up two very different aspects:

    1. The Wilders Security Forum is just what the name says. It is certainly not about investigative journalism, it is not about political or religious beliefs, it is not about society. It is perfectly alright for the forum owner to impose some rules which topics can be discussed here and which topics cannot. This has nothing to do with free speech. If it is alright for forum members to stay anonymous, that's the end of the story.

    2. This is very different from what everybody expects from a legitimate and honest business. Nobody should be able to conduct a business anonymously. In most countries there are laws which require full disclosure for registered businesses about the persons who are responsible for running this company. Of course there are many ways to cheat here, there are just too many obscure islands in the Pacific where you can establish a company. But for these cases there is the immediate suspicion that this happens for tax evasion and/or for money laundering. Anyone is free to decide if he/she wants to do business with such a company.

In the case of AX64 / Flashback many things are left in the dark. Isso can be easily found on the Internet, but for the Australian gang this is not so easy. I would like to know who they are, but their website does not reveal anything. And the recent posts by Isso and Wajamus are anything but clear and honest. Stuff which goes back way past AX64? Did Isso use code for AX64 which he did not own? When Isso said that he lost control of the software, does that mean that he was forced to give up control under some threats? Then why did he announce "some exciting news" right on this forum when the Australians took over? I do not think that he was completely honest at this time.

And Wajamus was much worse. Right after the Aussies took over he told the forum repeatedly that Isso was still on board. Bragging about the capabilities of the software which simply were not true did not help.
    Alright, tell us some more...
Before I do business with some company I want to know a little bit about this company's background.

And my thoughts about the future of FlashBack:
I am not too optimistic, I mostly agree with Froggy. Rebuilding trust among users for the company will be very hard, and if some new team takes over I guess the first thing they will do is ask the existing users to pay again for a new version.

    Cheers

Let us all remember what freedom of speech really means (at least here in the USA):

As already stated by Peter, this forum is not run by or created by the government. It is a private entity and freedom of speech is only as defined by the TOS. For a really good quick summary of what freedom of speech is and isn't, one can read http://jezebel.com/5985635/an-idiots-guide-to-free-speech.

I get tired of people throwing out "freedom of speech" for almost everything these days. Along with freedom of speech, there is a right to anonymity (at least at some level). I support both Peter and the Froggie in their position(s).

How could knowing Wajamus' real name help anyone?
And as others already said, there is a reason people use aliases while communicating on computers.

Sorry folks, but because of legal restrictions I cannot give details on the company merger and the reasons why I left it after a while.

Also I agree that anyone has a right to be anonymous on the forum. However you can inquire about the people behind any company by just contacting that company I guess (if that's important to you). Personally I don't care who's running a company that I buy something from. I would probably care if I was to make a significant investment into it.

Also, the only reason I revived this thread was to respond to Circuit who said "Ah I can just see them now driving in new luxury cars with the hottest babes (and way more), giving us the finger.". I didn't want anybody to think that I have such an attitude to those who supported me on this forum from the start.

I, in no way, know how Circuit was thinking, but I believe it was more of a tongue-in-cheek comment than anything else :)

From my knowledge, I don't think there was anyway AX64 LLC (or whatever their real REGISTERED corporate name is) ever made enough money for anyone involved to recoup what went in to it... eating was definitely a problem for them. The car, if it existed, was a recent leased acquisition from Rent-A-Wreck (with a PAST DUE bill in tow), and "babes" in a car with CEOs/Developers with absolutely no money to show for their effort... I don't think so.

Isso, again we thank you for your effort in the early stages of this application's development (I still love v1.4.1.48 ) and wish you the best... stay in touch, if it doesn't hurt

:argh::argh::argh: You gullible people on this forum.
As I said in an earlier post, this thread should have been shut down a long time ago. It just brings this great forum down.

I don't see any one forcing you to read this thread. I don't see it hurting the forum at all

Please don't shut this thread down. I still use v1.4.1.48 along with Macrium with incremental-delta restore. AXTM is faster at restores when doing testing.

I don't know why any suggestion to close it.

It has been from the start and continues to seem to be very informative in many ways.

Leave it open gets a solid nod from this end.

Just pass by the thread and im shocked that a so awesome concept (at least when Isso was the owner) went down so abruptly... i was one of the early beta tester (thx to Isso) and really liked it, sadly i stopped using it after AX64 was sold to this other "company".

I wish @Isso get another great idea , whatever it is, so he can move on to better skies and forgot this personal tragedy.

Might be of interest to some one :)

I have been using Aomei backupper and AX64 1.4.1.48 together for a number of years without problems, but just found out the latest version of Backupper breaks the AX64 driver. (Windows 7 64 bit)

K1C... when you say "breaks the AX64 driver," do you mean the driver system no longer works or is it that AOMEI is just screwing up the tracking capability of AX64 (needs to start over or actually fails in proper tracking)?
