I want to download an older release of Zone Alarm Free as the website says a restriction on the current (2017) release is that it cannot be run on a machine with anti-malware software. I run Malwarebytes and will not drop that. Does anyone know which is the last, good release of ZA Free that does not have a conflict with Malwarebytes? I know the websites that point to older ZA releases so I know how to download it..

    Thank you

Restrictions? You mean you run XP? Otherwise there are no known issues with ZAfree 2017 (only firewall) and antimalware software unless the antimalware software comes also with a firewall. :)

ZA states that you must remove programs like MBAM.

Only if you run the AV version... The ZA free version without AV works fine with MBAM

Now I need to download it.

It wants $10 to download. I would gladly pay if I could at least take a look at it.

I can't see the No Thanks part and can't push the graphic up.

    I'll keep working on it.

    About time, huh?

I installed it and it picked up my settings from ZA2016- obviously from the registry.

I like the program cuz it is for dummies like me. If all goes well, I will install it on my Win 7 computers when Outpost goes bye bye. Gonna miss those 6 lifetime licenses.

I think we can use Outpost firewall (not the suite) forever on Windows 7. Unless, of course M$ in their new update scheme decide to break it.

I, too, come from Outpost and Sunbelt and Kerio. Haven't used ZA in over 6 years.
I thought I'll take a shot at it for Windows 10.
I can't find a downloader for the whole thing, just some web initiator.
I would like to find a PDF user guide or some really informative screenshots.
Does the current version have a very clean uninstaller?
Does it still suffer from corruption in vsdatant (or whatever it was) that windows used to corrupt?

I think we can continue to use Outpost but what happens when we try the registration and no one is at the other end to verify it?:doubt:

You don't need to register there. I've installed Outpost with internet disconnected, put in the license and it all works. On Windows 7.

Does ZA require Windows Firewall to run or do they use just the base filtering engine or their own drivers?

There is no full installer anymore, ZA needs an active connection to configure correctly. Just ensure your windows firewall is ON while installing ZA or if you are behind a router the problem does not subsit.
I am not aware of any PDF guide, sorry. There is only an on-line guide accessible from the main ZA GUI
Depends how paranoid you are on left overs there are always left overs (not just a ZA issue). There is a removal tool if you run into troubles: http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/free/support/download/CLEAN.exe but to be run only in case of problem as it is not a replacement from the standard windows control panel uninstall procedure.
Not that I am aware of, corruption may happen if you use windows restore points, MS restoration process cannot cope with ZA low level hooking on the system.
OS core firewall drivers yes, they need to run. But the actual windows firewall will be turned off by ZA at install (pre-windows 10 OS) or by the OS itself (windows 10). Yes, ZA use its on drivers but it will interface with the OS by using the system API.

Bear in mind that I thought ZA 2017 required that you uninstall MBAM. That was explained in this thread.

    Have fun with it.
