does delete the journal speed up or keep an os healthy ?

My journal might be 19 gig instead of 19 MB. I am not sure how to convert kb to mn or to gig. My journal now is 20,127,176 kb. Is this 20 gig or 20 mb in size.

19,655.445MB / 1024 = 19.19GB

My recommendation is - don't touch the journal, plus it won't make any performance difference.

I like to keep my HDD tight, and I can tell when the USN journal starts to become unwieldy just by observing how it's handled during a defrag/optimize operation. When that happens, I abort the operation and get rid of the journal :

fsutil usn deletejournal /n c:​

  
  
… then redo the operation, for much the same reason as I'll also get rid of old System Restore points and temp files in general before doing a defrag/optimize. When it's done, I rebuild the journal :

The exact numbers is something I had figured out amost two years ago when this system was new and I read up on how to figure out which values to use . . . don't remember right now (and am too lazy to look it up ) but they make sense for this system.

Anyway, just posting my 2¢. Never had a problem doing this.
