I did these steps exactly but still have no tray icon.
Even I installed a fresh Windows on my brother's laptop and then installed avira and also there is no tray icon (it appeared once after install then disappeared).
The installation file I'm using is the version 15.0.23.58 which is the latest version till now.

So okay, what kind of OS do you use? Fresh installation of Windows with or without Windows Updates (Service Packs)? As you use the free version we need a way to fix that here.

Maybe this issue is caused by Avira Connect/ Launcher. So please download just Connect/ Launcher:

    http://www.avira.com/en/download/product/avira-free-antivirus

    Then install this packet.

This is what happen when I try to install launcher.
Remember that I re-installed avira after cleaning registry and removing all avira remnants.

I'm in field of information technology for 15 years and i'm using avira for 10 years now, so I know when avira has a problems. And now avira has a problem and this because of this launcher. I hope avira discontinue it.

I talked with the guys from the support dept. and they claimed that it seems to be a bug. So there's a workaround: Use 'regedit' and search & delete all 'Avira Launcher' entries. After that the installation should work fine and systray icon is available.

    1- I uninstalled avira.
    2- restarted.
3- removed all avira files and folders.
4- used the tool "Registry Finder" to remove every avira key.
    5- installed avira.
no tray icon, and launcher refuse to install.

After step 4, as LocoSec said: Use 'regedit' and search & delete all 'Avira Launcher' entries.
    4a- Restart your computer
    5- Install Avira

Check also and delete the following folder if exist=
    C:\User\AppData\Roaming\Avira

I did that. I removed all avira remnants.
Today I will install avira in virtual box with a fresh windows install and see what happen.

After installing avira in virtualbox with a fresh windows install the tray icon didn't appear but after downloading and installing launcher from avira site and restarting, the tray icon appeared. So, what registry key should I delete to allow launcher to install properly.

I found it. Just search registry for "launcherversion" , but it is the latest value of launcher that i downloaded already 1.2.74.26159.
I deleted the value after disabling avira self-protection, but still i get the message mentioned above.

As already mentioned: You need to uninstall Avira and clean the registry with 'regedit' and keyword 'Avira Launcher'. It seems that one entry remaining which causes this issue. Otherwise there will be a new version of our 'Avira Registry Cleaner' available soon.

Even if I did all that, avira antivirus installer will install an older version of the launcher and put the same values in registry again.
