I rarely use the Windows 10 News app but I opened it today to read a story and noticed a "Sponsored" article with the headline, "Do this every time you turn on your computer...", so I thought OK. I clicked and found a ad for some program called ScanGaurd. Anyone know anything about this?

As noted in a Bleeping Computer post it is listed here - http://www.top10bestantivirus.com/ - but I don't really know what that means.

    I smell a rat! :doubt:

I visited the website, but there is no trial version. However, went I went to top10bestantivirus (after telling PC Manager I really wanted to visit it, as it said it was unsafe and wanted me not to visit the site), I found Total AV (their top rated antivirus), which is ScanGuard under a different name. The Total AV website, bills it as "The Ultimate Free Antivirus 2016."

I installed it, and it using is Avira's scan engine. However, not suprisingly this free antivirus, is not free. You have to pay to remove any found threats - even tracking cookies, and the price is the same as ScanGuard. After running the inital scan and reviewing the scan results, it appears that there is no way to review the scan results again, or run another scan, at the point they just want your money.

This "free" antivirus is on special for $49 instead of $149.
